I have 420a ecu and i found a f/ic but I wanted to know if there is a standalone so I can replace it all together to make it more simple and easy to use.

Tuning adds power. Going from batch injection and ignition to full sequential versions of those adds power.

I just bought crower cams and I have a magna flow exhaust and I about to get cam gears and a new belt. I wanted to get it tuned but I wasn't sure If you could get the stock ecu tuned? I wanted to take full advantage of the cams im getting.

You have no mods listed for your car why do you need a standalone ECU?

First mod for me was ECMlink, tuned the car stock and made considerable amount of power more then when I first got it. We all know how far we can push stock components.

OP, here a write of up of common tuning solution for DSMs:

Stand alones allow for a fully tunable system, but requires a considerable amount of tuning knowledge to run.

You should research the right tuning option for you, which stand alones would be best if you want to take the stand alone route.

Thats a lot different than putting a standalone in a 420a with cams

Is everything else talked about work on 420a's?
None of it really does except standalones, maybe SAFC

So how would I go about tuning my ecu? just dyno and flash the ecu?

Don't think you can flash the 420A ECU and from what I've read a piggy-back won't work on the 420A either...

what about mega squirt?

Megasquirt will work. You can use it to control only the injectors or injectors and spark or use it as a full standalone to control cooling fans, nitrous, boost control, meth injection you name it megasquirt can do it. Check out 2gnt.com for info or use the search function (ie google) this is not the first time it's been used on our cars there is a lot of info out there. Search 420a megasquirt in google it will give u plenty to read!

You will have to make sure u build to for the 420a or make sure who you buy it from that it is configured for the 420a. The board has to have a custom cranck decoder to read the cranck signal. If you look up megasquirt ms3 in google it will bring up the megasquirt website click on it and go to documentation you will find everything there. Most of the ms2 stuff applies to the ms3 as long as they are both version 3 boards

Another thing you have to keep in mind is inspection. Your car is a 96 and will have to pass a plug in test. Which isnt going to happen with a stand alone. But wouldnt be a problem if its strickly a track car.

Are you trolling, or has someone educated you improperly?

If you put the stock ECU back you'll have to put the stock injectors and map sensor back in, along with any other sensors you changed to run the stand alone ECU. It's a pain that most people aren't willing to go through.

The plug in test needs an OBDII computer to talk to and make sure all the sensors are working properly.

you really dont need to tune your car with a stand alone system unless your going turbo. stock ecu can hanlde more then you think. i have a few mods and all i did was get a af/x ecu from howellautomotive.com the ecu has clean sheet software on it. so when you add new parts it will reconize what you have changed and tune everything through the ecu and componets. its really worth it for the price. then get a wideband and make sure your on with afr. stand alones cost alot of money. the aem is only a piggy back system and isnt worth the money imo.

Not mention it has to be driven enough to set the monitors. I'm not experienced with megasquirt but if it has the ability to piggy back like say greddy emanagement and still have the stock ECM in place, It would be possibly.
