the idle speed adjusting screw and the accelerator adjusting cables do the same thing of moving the default throttle position right or not? trying to understand how these parts function. thanks

By idle speed adjusting screw do you mean your biss screw on top of your throttle body? If so then no your biss is used to adjust the amount of air diverted around your throttle body to set your iac motor at I believe the center of it's range. If your talking about your thottle body set screw on the bottom of the throttle body, don't touch that one. This is set at the factory and should never be adjusted. If for some reason it has to be set bring it in to where it touches the throttle and give it 1 and 1/4 turn. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.
 
could that BISS screw be too tight causing the car to die or prevent it from starting?
 
Neither hold the throttle plate open, the cable should be loose enough so that it doesn't hold the plate open. The closed throttle switch on a 1g should hold it very slightly open so that it doesn't stick closed just like the throttle set screw on a 2g.
 
Idle like poop and stall, yes. Not starting at all, unlikely. back it out and see if it helps. Count the turns if it doesn't help put it back where it was. It wont hurt nothing.
 
wait, is the BISS the thing with the two prong terminal right above the ISC? or is it the recessed Philips head screw more next to the TPS? what's what between those two? sorry, but I've read through the Haynes manual more than once and their tiny black & white pictures give me a headache, and just aren't clear enough.
 
no, just dies. pulled code 23. at this it's looking like the CAS. shopping for an affordable one preferably new. any suggestions? seen a couple brands under $200 on Ebay, richporter, Delphi, Cardone... any recommendations? thanks
 
You need an eight inch of cable slack from the pedal to the throttle plate opener.

To adjust this, you loosen the two 10mm bolts that locks down the cable bracket on the intake manifold and you slide the bracket back and forth until you get that 1/8" of cable play. To test, take a hold of the cable inbetween cable sheath and throttle plater opener and you should pull it up about an half inch before the throttle plate opener moves.

As for idle speed settings, you reset the ISC then you adjust the BISS screw to set the idle speed. If all is good, you set the BISS screw where your tach reads 750rpm idle speed.

But, you need to get the base 5* BTDC timing down first before all of this and motor in operating (196*) temperature.
