Okay I need advice. I own a 96 eclipse gsx. I kept getting p0340 codes. Which is cam shaft position sensor. Mine is bad so what I did is put in a 1g black top cas. Anyway my question is why do I have to hook up my lab top and erase my p0340 code every time to start my car. I did everything right wiring is fine. spark plug wires are hooked up fine I did the install correct. My car runs great but It will not start unless I erase this code first every time I want to start. Can someone please help I'm really confused.

Additionally, did you tell it to ignore the cylinder misfire DTC in the DTCs tab?

from what I understand if you use a 1g cas in a 2g the misfire box has to be checked because most of the time it will throw a cell.

The cylinder misfire box should be unchecked. You have to do this for a 1G CAS in a 2G.

It's worse then ever. I keep throwing the 340 code constantly. Now it will not even idle. I need help badly. I have to hold the gas pedal down to keep it running. Also If I try to stop the car it dies. Tested Isc tested good. No boost leaks. The question that I want to ask is. Would my car run really bad like this if my ignition timing was really off like at 15 and not at 5.

Double check that CAS and make sure it's sound mechanically. Make sure it spins smoothly and remove the black top to verify visually that there isn't a loose vane.

Okay I'm pretty sure I know what's going on. I need someone to verify this. My base ignition time is at 15. It needs to be at 5. Is this the problem. I have no idea how a 1g or a 2g runs with super advanced timing at idle. Right now I have to keep the car running with the gas pedal. It also backfires. I also keep getting the code 340. I'm going to redo my ignition timing. Hopefully this fixes it.

How did you time your car the first time? 15 degrees is a lot! Was the 15 degrees with the fans, HVAC, radio OFF? Have you tried starting the car with the "Gound timing" check box checked?

15 base?? The cover marks stop at 10... how the hell did you not have it run like crap anytime before this? Sounds to me like maybe you didn't have the bolts holding it in place tight enough and it slipped.

To better explain myself Ive never used a timing light ever untill 3 weeks ago. The worst mistake I made was thinking the t mark means 15. Does that make any sense. So the first mark all the way at the bottom is where my base ignition timing is right now. I know I have to get it to the t mark

ROFL

Honestly, I had only been running 1 degree BTDC because of the pot mod and SAFC advancing the timing so much, so really it wouldn't have mattered. I'm moving to a 98 H8 ECU though, so that isn't a problem anymore. I'll be setting it at the notch between T and 10.
