OK now I need some input on possibly trading my car. I have a 97 gst with a few modds done to it, car runs great. The other I day found out a friend is selling his 99gsx, after speaking with him he offeres to trade for my car but also wants some cash. The gsx is pretty much stock but does need work, as far as i know the turbo is blown, it needs new mounts, and it also has a extremly low idle when cold. My car on the other hand does not currently need any mechanical work. The only reason I am considering the trade is for the obvious reason Its a gsx and it only has 80k original miles on it. Like I said I am just looking for some input, so any advice would be appreciated.

It depends on how much cash he'd want on top, if the car has all those problems, why deal with it? U can buy an awd shell and swap in your motor, probably end up saving yourself a ton of money, just my .02

F that, I agree with supermario.. And why trade for something you have running good to take a step backwards.. AWD really that important to you right now to have to commit to redoing all you have thats running good.

If you do trade, find out how many miles, compression numbers (turbos blown who knows what else could possibly be wrong..) and what not before you do..

Ya, I guess your decision would greatly depend on how much he was asking on top. Personally I would just tell him straight trade. Nice thing is, you already know what to look for as far as "things wrong" with the vehicle and how to fix them.

If anything, he should be putting cash on top.
Who cares if it has 80k miles, shit isn't running.
He probably knows something he doesn't want you to know, inspect the car inside and out for anything suspicious.

It would be a better idea in my opinion to buy a wrecked awd donor car for the rear end, transmission, gas tank and other parts and do an awd swap on his car instead of taking a clean car like his and pulling the engine out and have a non running car sitting there.

I'd hit it....... oh wait wrong thread. Depending on the money he wants, I would offer your car plus like $500.

considering the condition of the awd car.. straight up trade .. car for car or walk away...

The guy wants $1700 with trade, I have known the guy for some time and know first hand the car has been garage kept and weekend driven only, like i mentioned it has 80k miles on it. The timing belt was just redone with a gates belt and the interior is all original up to the cd/cassette deck. I looked at the car recently and from my knowledge it seems ok minus the turbo system, the only thing i havent checked is compression all else checks out, no cel, coolants fine, fans work, transmission in good shape aswell.

I think I am gonna go with awdspyder98 and offer a straight trade...being that its gonna take a bit a cash to get it running right.

Sorry Jusmx141, was'nt really sure were to post.

that's what I was saying. Even if the work is all done by you. Then the price of paying a shop should be calculated into the price. I'm sure that the price of a new turbo, gaskets, and labor is not far from 1700

i wouldn't even considering adding any cash...

No way. A perfectly running Spyder GST for a broken GSX +1700 on top? I'd tell the dude to pay YOU to trade. AWD doesn't mean squat if the car doesn't run.

And I'm with Bryan. Get an AWD shell and AWD swap the Spyder.

think about it this way... whatever cash you have to put on top + whatever you have spent on mods + whatever you'll have to do to get it running... will probably be less then the AWD swap

Yea i have given it more thought, and after calculating the $1700 plus fixing it and modding up to the level of my gst and its way more cash than i originally thought. I was just really fixated on actually owning a gsx, the only reason i got the gst was cause the lack of gsx's in my area. I am gonna throw out a even trade offere if he refuses oh well.

Yea $1700 is a lot. I would have done up to $1000. A 99 gsx with 80k is around $7k blue book.

SMH -_- the car is stock, and running like crap. and he has one of the rare modified DSMs that is actually running good... you still think its a good trade? i wouldn't give your friend a single dollar IMO. he probably won't take you up on the deal, because he is selling the car for some reason... (maybe needs money?)

The guys trying to sell it off the kbb value, originally he wanted 6500. He was interested in my car thats how the whole trade thing came about. I just offered him $600 so we'll see how it goes, i only offered $600 cause the car has a new set of tein coilovers that i know cost more than that.
