...But i dont like 1g's ... its a 92 :ohdamn: fwd tsi

The specs is what really caught my attention tho.. and he's willing to go my price range :thumb: almost 3k if i jump on it. (also, he really likes my lude.. he's not into the fast thing anymore, he wants more of a cruiser.. he said if im interested, he would trade straight across.. hmmm)

We've been talking for a few days now.. seems to know what he's talking about when i ask questions. he doesnt beat around the bush.

The car needs tie rods and ball joints to which he already has but not yet installed.

So guys, what you think? should i go for it or hold off for a 2g talon (which i really like)

Any pics? Sounds like it's pretty decently set up right now. The FWD is a bit of a bummer, but AWD swapping isn't impossible. 1gb Talon's really aren't too bad in terms of looks. I actually rather enjoy them, you don't see many clean ones now days.

I say jump on it and give it some time to grow on you. Tinker with the platform and get familiar with the ins/outs of a DSM. Then, if you still find the 2g to be more suited for you, at least you already have your foot in the door. But for the record, selling my 1990 TSi AWD for a 2g TSi AWD was a poor choice. The 1g's can really leave an impression on you.

yea thats what i said about it being fwd.. but thats ok, im not trying to track it or go really fast. 300-350hp is ok for me. how bad is swapping it to an awd? pita??

your second paragraph hit home, thats what i was thinking..

but yea, here's a few pics that were snapped:

That's a pretty clean 1g! Looks like it could use some straightening up, but that's good for learning. Maybe I'm just very picky about engine bays. :D

I have never personally done the AWD swap, but from what I've seen it isn't terribly difficult if you have a bit of experience with fabrication. It seems like the hardest part would be finding a a decent donor car. But at 300-350hp, you shouldn't have any horrible traction issues. At least no more than your used to with your Honda. LOL

But like I said, if the car runs straight and seems like a good deal, then I'd go for it. If worse comes to worst, you could always throw it up on Craigslist and possibly make a few extra bucks. But there is no harm in waiting for the right deal either. It's one of things where nobody can really tell you a right or wrong answer, it's just what you feel would be best.

If you like it take it man. When I got my first 1g (auto esi) I spent 6 months fixing it after I already paid 3800 for it (body was mint) sold it regrettably 6k miles later for 1800. Now they've grown on me so much I picked up another one and that's where all my money goes. In time the 1g will grow on you very much......usually does.

Fun fact to is its the 1g's that won 5 consecutive SCCA championships in a row, even against their 2g predecessors.

Looks like a very good starting platform for a newer guy to start on. I guess it all depends on the shape of the Prelude that would really determine whether or not it is a good or bad "deal" .. Im kind of concerned what that little guys is just to the left of the exhaust manifold?? Wastegate? If so, Ive never seen one in that location before..

Definitely a good lookin 1g for sure!! Id jump on it if I were you!

Also, Ive read that doing a 1g awd swap is a PITA and is totally different than doing one in a 2g.. I completed my AWD swap in about 70 total hours.. You also have to take into account whether or not you have all of the parts, equipment and skill level to preform such a task.. For instance, Im very vehicle knowledgable and pretty familiar with fabrication and using a welder/touch..

I would suggest get this car, get familiar with the platform and have fun with the FWD.. THEN, when you're ready to dive into something get an AWD car and build that.. Good luck though with whichever you choose!!

Thanks for the replies guys, yall really got me thinkin now! haha..

But as for the lude, its in excellent condition.. I went to GA and back with no issues.. it has a new clutch and around 58k on the h22a.. it has a little more done to it but thats about gist of it.. clean interior 9/10 and about 2 small dents on the body.. extremely reliable.. oil changes and fluids get changed around 4-6 months  im a little nit picky when it comes to small things like that :coy:

the body style of the 1gs is what i really dont like.. the boxy look is, idk.. not as eye catchy i guess.. i love the rounded bodies like the 2gs.. but yall say itll grow on me :hmm:

Do you need a reliable car? If so, don't trade your Prelude.

You're buying a USED car. You have no clue what the current/old owner did to the car. Be prepared to spend at least a thousand bucks on maintenance items...Just for peace of mind.

You don't even like the 1G. The only reason you're even giving it a 2nd thought is because someone offered to trade you straight across. Why drive a car you don't like in the hopes that it will grow on you? What if it never grows on you?

If it were me...I'd save my money + Prelude and wait for a 2G.

I agree. My first car was the 2g gst in my profile pic, now i have an awd 1ga(personally think it looks better than 1gb). And I never really liked the 1g look. After a while, it grew on me, and here we are :) .
If its not what you're looking for, don't settle. Who knows? You might end up running into a great 2g if you wait ;)

I say wait for what you really want. Sure it may grow on you but you know that you're gonna most likely always want a 2g more. And it's FWD which sucks. Just wait. And on a side note, I own a 92 talon tsi AWD and I personally think 1gb talons are the sexiest DSM's. I wish mine was as clean on the outside as that one though!

i say go for it! do all the proper checks before buying... and make it a DD. then when your ready pick up an AWD to build into a weekend cruiser, if you want too. FWD makes a fine DD imo.

Thanks again for all the replies, too lazy right now to quote ppl :coy:

taking every reply into consideration..

The thing is, im also 6'5 and some change.. i rode in my friends 2g eclipse and i felt a little un conformable. i put the seat back and leaned it back more and then it felt better, but nothing like the lude.. coming from the lude, it had a lot more less space. The 1g looks like it has more room.. (the guy sent me pictures of the inside)

i dont like the 1ga look.. (the ones with the flip up lights right?) idk it just seems there too much "headlight" goin on LOL.. either have them flip up, or have em like the 1gb, not both.. -- just my opinion.

i think the 2ga talon is the sexiest dsm.. I like the little "smile" it has.. LOL.. (same with 2ga eclipses if im not mistaken) they just look so smooth..

but with that said, i would sacrifice my comfortableness for a 2ga awd or FWD talon.. (i have two friends, they are both brothers. one has a gsx and the other has a gst.. the gst is a tad faster than his brothers gsx.. i rode in them both. even though the gst spun "a LITTLE bit" when he got on it, i liked the feel of it more than the gsx when he got on it..) the gst is pushing around 350-400 i believe.. its really clean.. so, i kinda like the feel the gst had when pushed other than the gsx. just my .02

so when ppl say the fwd is not where its at, i kinda like it better.. :coy:

im sure from a dig, it would suck. but from a roll, it was actually really nice.. i was more "ahhh sh!!!t" in the gst than the gsx =/

his brothers gsx took off from a dig, and i was in the passenger seat like :D while holding on to the side LOL

--------------

If i do get this car, everyone is right.. itll be my starter car.. ill have my foot in the door now ;) and ill learn new things on the way! -- then ill have more experience and knowledge of the dsm to put fourth towards an awd

the 1g IS growin on me a little bit already.. =/ after watching tons of tributes on youtube LOL and seeing clean pictures of them.. i kinda like em more now.. they have a little aggression look to em..

sounds like a good deal to me too. Only ting I would do is think about it as much as you can, because you're taking a big chance with this. Having a reliable car and getting something you have no idea about, for all you know it's spend most of it's time on jack stands. When I upgraded from an RS to my GST, I was disappointed because my RS never gave me problems in the years I owned it like my GST did in the first few months. Now after almost a year of owning this one, I got to know the platform much better, did every maintenance I can think of, and hasn't given me any problems at all. Just something else you should think about. If it were me, I would just wait until you find the 2ga talon you really want, AWD or not, they are both fun imo. Yes the AWD will have much better launch but I do enjoy from a roll on my fwd.:p..Good luck

Idk man, I personally would just keep the clean prelude and get a 2g like you want. You really should take into account the reliability factor also. Keep the reliable Honda and get a dsm. If the dsm ever breaks down you'll have the prelude as a back up and never have to worry about how your getting to work LOL. I mean, my 92 talon tsi is very reliable. Never had an issue besides something chewed up the turbo wheel fins. But it drives perfect and runs perfect. But I got lucky. It's your choice in the end though man so do what you want :)

if you haven't seen a 1g in person yet... go take a look at one. thats when it really grew on me, and i decided that when I'm building a strictly track/weekend car it'll be a 1g.

they have a little aggression look to em..

A LOT of aggression to them if you ask me...

Honestly, if I could find a 1gb Talon that wasn't destroyed for a decent price, I'd dump my 2ga in a heart beat. Especially if it was a 6/4 combo. I really liked my 1ga, but it was a bit harsh on the eyes IMO. I still browse CL often hoping to find a 1g TSi. :(

WOW!!!! That thing is a beauty, not gonna lie.. :sneaky:

Is there more interior room in a 1g?

Also, i dont think there is any reliability issues with the dsm.. its a rebuilt engine with around 15k miles with everything replaced; water pump, timing belt.. etc.. he has receipts for everything..

the outside doesnt look that good, but that can always be done... First thing (if i do get this car) is droppin it L.O.L... cant stand the height. coming from my slammed lude to this, is like driving a monster truck hahaha -- when i have that title in my hands, best believe its hittin the floor (maybe not THAT low, "its not a honda" ;) but low enuf) in about 3 days time haha

Well then grab it! I like the look of dropped DSM's but I wouldn't drop mine. Only because I bought it for SNOW LOL.

And Wes, that talon is gorgeous! Someday I hope mine can compare to that! I have a 6/4 AWD 92 tsi :)

whats this 6/4 combo?

EDIT: Nvm i googled it ;) 6bolt engine with a 4 bolt lsd rear end...

In the honda we talk about lsd (in the front tho LOL) so if its awd with an lsd in the rear, JEEBUS!

I wouldn't get it if you aren't into 1G's, and don't want a FWD, I wouldn't get it. Might as well keep looking for what you really want, because when one does come up, youre going to kick yourself in the ass.

When I was looking for a turbo model dsm, it had to be a 2g eclipse nothing else. But then I got to see this clean 1ga talon awd in person and fell in love with the 1ga look. Not a big fan of the 1gb look but that one picture wes posted is gorgeous.

This. Countless people have settled, and we have as many "Can I turbo this" or "Can I make this AWD" posts. ;) Don't settle.

hahaha, this is crazy half of you are saying dont settle, and the other half is saying do it..

im metting with the guy come wednesday.. so we'll see what happens ;)

if i like it, im gonna get it. its funny how no one answered my question about how much room they have compared to the 2g.. :coy:

After seeing this picture, i love it.. i dont think im gonna "settle" the 1g is actally growin on me from what ppl said it would. And im jus lookin at more pictures! LOL So when i finally do come in contact with the car itll either be i love it, or i dont like it.. if i get the feeling some where in between, im not gonna get it. i also think when i actually drive it and feel boost for the first time (ima lose my boost virginity :p) im get it in the spot! cause i still remember how i reacted when i felt vtec for the first time ROFL

This is the picture i was talkin about.. Love the way he cut the bumper -- i might steal that idea lulz :p
