So I picked up some racing seats at a damn good price that I could not let pass me by, so I'm looking into Schroth's 4 point Autocontrol II in black.

Now, I'm also looking to keep the rear seats in the car if possible (take them out for track days) so I need to attach the harnesses to something somehow.

Well this roll bar has a harness bar into it. Killing two birds with one stone.
I would possibly do just a harness bar, but I dont see any "Evo type" bolt-in style harness bars for the 1g.

So here is what I found, being it meets NHRA requirements, Bolts in, and on sale, I thought I would share and see what everyone thinks.

90-94 ECLIPSE

Zak, even though it say that it's "NHRA certified" you'll still have to add at least the driver's side door bar (5-pt cage) to be legal for sub-11.49 passes. None of the PNW racetracks will let that slide. Also, WSP and all of the local cops I know of in Washington are total dicks about harnesses in use while street driving and will ticket you for no seatbelt, regardless of whether they are the legal Schroth harnesses or not. I'm also not a fan of harness bars as I have seen a few of them fail in bad accidents and the results are NOT pretty. Overall, that setup isn't a bad start to build on. You could easily add a custom bolt-in door bar for pretty cheap too.

long as it fits... where does it bolt in the back? i only see 2 mounting plates... and im guessing there arent already holls drilled there in the dsm? id think the rear bars would need welding or another set of mounting plates looks good and is cheap tho

Check the door bar option out:
90-94 ECLIPSE
$25 more, they have, 4, 6, 8, and 10 point cages on here.

Aside from that, check these options too for the cage: (not sure if this would be NHRA legal)

Pro Street Runner Package - 1 3/4" (rear)

Pro Street Door Package (front)

Long time no talk Mike, (if I remember your name correctly, LOL)
text a brotha sometime, I've been pretty quite around here LOL

What does everyone think?
Is this cage worth the cash?
$275 for a 6 point cage...

if its actually bolt on... sure otherwise.. how much is it for a custom welded cage of the same dementions? id get chromoly if i were you just for rigidity and piece of mind... looks okay but if your looking for a harness bar you can always reinforce and stick it on the rear sturt tower bar (if you have one) do you even need a cage? or is this just for a seatbelt harness?

I think I'm going to consider this. Anyone on here have it or a simulair bolt in cage. Do these cages add rigidity to the car?

My honest thoughts:

That cage is more then likely mild steel tubing (based off the price), which will add a lot of weight to the car. Next up are the welds, I'm not sure about "BD Racing" or whomever is building the cage, but the welds need to pass NHRA tech to be legal, so make sure they are welded well. Next up are the mounting plates. NHRA requires there be 36 in/sq mounting plates (pretty much 6" x 6" square). Another thing to watch out for is the required headroom. (I forget the amount, it's like 1 or 2 inches) from the drivers head to the cage. The reason a "custom cage" costs 2K - 3K dollars is because of all the rules that need to be met. Last thing you want is to get black flagged for an improper cage..

It's legal if it meets NHRA roll bar requirements. Hoop height from your head, door bars passing through your elbow/shoulder, mounting plates, etc. Those cage will come pre-bent and notched, but you will still have to have them welded together. They typically don't have the best fitment in terms of maximizing space. S&W Racecars sells similar cages and they fit mediocre at best. Doesn't mean it won't work, I'm just not a fan.
