Hey guys,

I'm new to the DSM world but have always wanted one. I found a '97 GSX for sale on Craigslist and thought I would get some opinions before I made the guy an offer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Here's the link: 97 eclipse gsx

Clutch problems, blown turbo, ebay header, maybe a 2500-3000 dollar car.

why is there no rad cap on it ? I would start the car let it run for at least half an how take it for a drive check the gauges ..Not sure if the 2g's have the rod adjustment ...Zip ties for the bumper many people do break the clips easy to fix , strut tower does need some work , Does he have any proof for the engine and transmission ? is there any timing cover on the bottom part ? Stage 2 act with all those mods? ..Does the clutch slip any proof that its a new clutch ...He may have taken out the 16g because the clutch does slip under boost...

Thanks for the quick feedback. Looks like I won't be making an offer for this car. It's disappointing how rare unadulterated 2g GSX's have become...

imho I'd pay like $2k tops. Blown clutch, blown turbo, ebay manifold, etc. If you're serious about getting into one you could always give that guy a realistic offer with everything needing to be done and see where it goes or just move on and keep looking. I got mine with 169k miles, sat in a field for 5 years and needed a decent overhaul just to get up to par and I got it for $1300.

Yeah, I'll try to make him an offer for what the car is really worth. Unfortunately, I know next to nothing about cars, which is something I'm trying to change before I graduate from college in the next 2 years

If you're not too inclined on the mechanical side of things, find you something bone stock and start there. Anything modified at this point will go from you getting a good car to you getting someone elses headache. So, look for something stock, no rust, and no problems. Good luck, as well.

I've been searching since my freshman year of college with no luck. Hopefully one turns up soon

The car totally needs some work. If you have the time and money to build it up I would say go for it. Its really fun to play with dsm's but can break your head sometimes. LOL good luck dude.
