Thoughts?

Im looking to buy one of these but looking on bimmerforums it seems as though people dont know how to use a wrench since i found write ups and whatnot on how to change your oil...

I mean the thing looks spotless, has 1 owner and about 108k miles on it. I dont want a headache and hope to use it as my dd without much worry of sh*t breaking.

I sold my talon last year and regret every second of it but aside from that, i bought a house, am finishing my degree and life's pretty swell :)

BMWs are expensive to buy parts for and most are not DIY friendly. Hope you have a decent job where you make plenty of money to hand to the local BMW dealership.

There's write-ups on how to change oil because the average BMW owner takes their car to the dealership to get their windshield washer fluid filled. You really think ppl that buy those cars wrench on them too

It's a car. You will be using it daily. Sh*t will break.

A spotless exterior wouldn't mean much to me. The owner probably had a garage. What's to say he didn't neglect maintenance or romp on it every time he/she drove it?

BMWs are comfy, overpriced, imported, sporty, and luxurious. But I think you should go get your Talon back :thumb:

What makes it not DIY friendly? And yea I didn't think they wrenched themselves but the raping I hear people get at the dealer is ridiculous. The thing has a maintenance list of stuff that's been replaced so I think it was taken care of and was traded for another BMW. I just have 0 experience w bmws in general so I don't wanna get in over my head.

I want a 1g :(

personally id stay away from a majority of the european cars... just get another DSM :)

I agree however I need something thats gonna be my daily driver and there are NO 1g's around here that arent beat to piss and/or completely overpriced, still. It sucks, I've owned my fair share of dsms, 17 to be exact, and im kind of over the rough ride, learning new creaks and clunks, and worrying about knock haha. But if the BMW is just as bad i may have to go another route.

From what i've heard the transfer cases in them suck worse than 90-91 dsm's with a chain driven planetary. Aside from that I know its like every other euro car *(Hence my screen name) so I know electrical components will also be another slight issue, just not sure how big of one it will be.

tbh ive wanted one of these for a while but I do take opinion to heart.

if you just want a nice DD fine a nice 92-00 civic for much less and enjoy great reliability/ gas mileage/cheap parts/easy as hell to work on. Of course you're trading off luxury but the overall operating costs are MUCH more minimal than a bmw. I like some BMW's but they're just not worth it imo if you don't know them like the back of your hand or have a deep wallet.

Same opinion here about price of parts. It cost people usually 1k just to do a front brake job here at my work due to the fact that they use composite rotors. Oh let's not forget they always leak oil no matter what you do. Were not talking about small leaks either. I have yet to see a BMW come in the shop that didn't have one oil leak. It will be just cheaper in the long run to get something else. Hell I bought a 2000 S10 Blazer for $1500 for my daily.

get it, bmw makes a good car if you take care of it. expect to replace the whole cooling system soo if they hadnt yet.

Thanks for all the input. I'm still up in the air as far as what I wanna drive but after talking to a few other people too the consensus is 50/50. People either love or hate BMW from what I gather, I love em but I'm not trying to own a money put so it's drifting farther away from being a viable option.
