Hello. I am new to the site and was wondering if i had crankwalk? The car is a 1998 eclipse gs with a turbo (stage one as far as i know.) when i pull off, and start going, it sticks in first gear, then short shifts into the next gear. Sorry if I don't know what im talking about, because I don't know the mechanics of a car, but want to learn.

Call me crazy but that sounds more transmission-ish.

That's what some people i have talked to said. A couple of them say it might the gears themselves, but like i said, i have no idea.

You have a 420a, "crank walk" was only in the first year of the 7 bolt 4g63 so 95-96. A. you have a 420a= no crank walk and b. Its not a 95 or 96.

As far as I know any car can crankwalk, but some are more susceptible than others. Either way this seems like it has more to do with the transmission.

Give more helpful info please the first line of 7 bolts was not 95-96 it was late 92 and up. they were more crankwalk "prone" then the six bolt. pre precautions can be made to prevent cw. also split thrust bearing blocks were not made till late 97. which were technically marked as 98 models.

A 420a can Get CW too and technically any engine can. Had an 07 gmc 4.3 in a van get crankwalk in the shop b4.

OP your problem is either with your transmission or shifter. check and see if someone hasn't tried to make their own short shifter. if all cables are good and working correctly not getting jammed its probably your transmission
