Would I be able to fiberglass the holes shut? I don't know the first thing about working with fiberglass but I'd like to start learning so I can eventually build myself a subwoofer box. For Fiberglassing would I patch the inside and then fill from the outside? I may just take the wing off when I delete the rear wiper, washer and antennae.

It's easy..but messy. Take the fiberglass mat or weave, and lay it on the inside, then coat is in resin. Then wait. Seal off everything you don't want to get ruined.

I'd get it welded though.

I guess it wouldnt be too hard to cut some sheet metal and weld on the underside of the holes and bondo over it. I think thats the way I'll go, and run without the wing for a while.

if at some point you race the car then you want a wing. It helps the handling and down force. You may want to invest in one that you can adjust depending on whether drag racing or autocross. It costs more but as I said adjusting could help out more the faster you go.

That is a good point, and the reason im looking to change spoilers. An adjustable one would be ideal. Problem is finding a good one.

It isn't a real good point at all unless you are going to be taking corners at 100+ mph. Autocross speeds are not near high enough for a spoiler to benefit you in any way. As for drag racing, you are awd you should not have traction problems to begin with, and if you do it will be at low speeds when taking off. Again a spoiler won't help with those speeds. These cheap ricer spoilers aren't really going to be very functional any way. It will be mounted to a sheet metal hatch on the car and they are cheap aluminum spoilers. If you want a real functional spoiler it is going to have to be built stronger than those and it will need to be tied into the structure or the car.

The best way to do it is weld the hole so you dont have to worry about it ever..I bondo'd my hatch holes and eventually cracked. LUCKILY for me I found a base model hatch with no wiper or wing and put that baby on =)

:talon:try a talon 2ga or 2gb wing they both look good on a 2g eclipse IMO

I agree and they are very hard to find, I may end up going with the deck spoiler from the millenium body kit. I refuse to go aluminum, if I could find the millenium wing cheap, like dirt cheap. Id like to mold it so I could get it made in CF. The millenium wing is my last resort which is what looks like I may have to use, or a veilside wing.

Alright, I've narrowed down the spoilers between 2.

First:95 96 97 98 99 Eclipse Aristo Style Carbon Trunk Spoiler Wing Lip Best Fitment | eBay

Second: 105583 Extreme Dimensions Paintable Wings - Millenium Widebody for 95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse at Andy's Auto Sport

The paintable one is the better of those two IMO. The only way I would ever accept (personal opinion of course) a big carbon fiber wings on these cars is if it was a legitimate race wing. Like the one on my buddy's evo.... granted it was a $1000+ wing, but if you want the real thing, the functional thing, then you have to pay a big price. Those poser ricer wings are cheap for a reason. I say go with the stock wing, wingless, or something small that can be painted like that spoiler you linked. Keep it tasteful man, and don't be a poser/ricer.

BTW, here's a pic of my buddy's EVO with the wing I mentioned. One of the most badass cars around here by far.

I appreciate the input, I'm trying to stay as un rice as I can. However, for my build the wing has to be CF, and while I like the look of a high rise wing, I dont think it would look right.

I filled the holes on my hatch with fiberglass patching and bondo. First do the fiberglass from underneath, let it harden for a full week, then apply your bondo. Let that harden and set up for a week or so, then primer it/paint. Mine has been sitting a few months now in the garage with just primer, cant even tell it was there

Granted welding is always best, but sometimes most of us dont have access to a welder or someone that can weld...for a decent price. IDK about all of you, but Im not paying $175 to have 2 holes welded up. (prices may vary)

Nothing wrong with a carbon fiber wing if it's a functional one, like the one on the evo... But they're big $$$. And even then if you don't race it as a street/track car you'll still get s**t for being a "poser" of sorts. Not from me... I don't care what people with their cars. Just warning ya :shhh:

would just leave out the spoiler and call it a day! unless your pushing some crazy HP and need the downforce(say on a track) i wouldnt worry about!:hellyeah:

If you're interested in a real wing, meaning one that isn't just for show, pm me and I'll give you my phone number and I'll talk with you about options.
