Okay so heres my issue. i just got my 98 gst but the guy blew the seals on the turbo and it is no longer in commission. what is my best option here? rebuild the stock turbo? get a new one? i need a sort of cheap way because i have other bills to pay to, i found a 1g turbo on craigslist for $50, would that work?

Just a quick Google search shows a rebuild kit for $45, plus you have to know what you are doing so you don't screw it up. Also, I assume that, like most normal people, you have not rebuilt a Turbo so that's a lot of time invested in changing the thing.

IMHO, Turbo upgrade time when t25 takes a crap.

so whats my best and not necessarily cheapest option but not stupid expensive option, i just wanna get it boosted again

If you have a little money I'd go ahead and get a 14b. T25s are just too easy to screw up. I got a 14b with no shaft play, coolant lines, drain tube, and j-pipe all for $125 on eBay.

you said on ebay, what do i type in to look that up?

Just type in 14b turbo or you could try for a small 16g. It's really hit or miss if you can even find one, and if you do normally they need to be rebuilt. I got a good deal in mine. No shaft play and no signs of the seals being bad.

$50 sounds pretty fair for a good 14b. You would still need a 2g install kit though. You have to have a jpipe pretty much. The t25 oil return line can be "modded" to fit the 14b fine. I would get the 14b and look on eBay for a 2g 14b install kit if you can't afford one from a vendor.

No basically you just make the bolt holes larger on the return line where it bolts to the turbo.

More-so, when a T25 is blown to the point that it no longer makes boost, it's junk to the point where it can't be rebuilt. I got burned on buying so many T25 cores with shaft play in the past that I now only buy good, working T25's to rebuild for customers. They're not nearly as forgiving in the shaft play department as MHI turbos. :D

That's exactly why I finally bought a 14b. I have 3 t25 turbos sitting in my garage right now, and all 3 are junk.

whats the max psi i can push with the 14b with the stock smic (hopefully im getting a fmic soon), and speaking of, whats the best fmic for a good price? i just dont know where to look for this kind of stuff (minus ebay)
