Check pin I believe its 16 for power there should be unswitched 12V
I bet money u have a blown fuse.

Mine stopped working when I had alt issues

Doesnt sound good... check the fuse box to see if you have blown anything.

if the obd fuze isnt blown, i know its random, but check your cigar liter fuze as well.xx

Just checked fuses under driver side dash and under the hood. All are good. I dont think I missed any unless there are fuses somewhere else

get a test light and check for power at the obd2 port. sometimes the cheapy scanners from advance dont like to hook up to some cars ours being one of them

I love how there is always so much disdain for parts stores... Just as an FYI... those scanners aren't "cheap" if you have to buy one yourself. Sure it's the "lower end" one just because parts stores are not shops. They're just to give you a general idea of what is going on. You want a confirmed diagnosis, go pay the flat rate to get your car plugged up to one of the big computers from snap-on and such.

That being said... OP, check your wiring going to your obd port and just for good measure, double check all fuses.

I have this on my DD. Not a DSM of course but, it's a body control module fuse.

Also check that someone hasnt hacked the wires going to the back of the connector to install some aftermarket gauges, logging, or tracking device instead of using a pass-thru connector with pigtail.

Double checked everything, its all good. All the wiring is in tact. The only thing ive messed with is pulling out a Kenwood fm transmitter and installing my pioneer head unit.

Exactly, I run a high-end Matco scan tool, cost me thousands; I also have a $120 handheld from Harbor Freight. I use the cheapo scanner a lot more and it does exactly what it's supposed to do... It pulls codes and gives some basic definitions.

OP. Did you ever check for power at pin 16 of the DLC? (OBD2 port) If there is no power at pin 16 then there is no connection to a scan-tool.

All I was saying is that some cheaper scanners dont hook up to some computers (ours being one of them) I had the same budget scanner that advance uses and if its an older version one it doesnt link to the ecu when you plug in your year make and model. I had to use the global reading and look up the codes that it gave me rather then it telling me what each code ment.

What do I need to check the pins in the obd port itself. I did a third sweep of my fuses and found a blown door lock fuse. Getting ready to replace it. Can an obd port go bad?

You would need a multimeter or a test light to check the pins. Even a cheap $12 one from wally world would work, just make sure to get the digital meter. Yes its possible but I have yet to see one go bad through my experiences.

UPDATE: My car died on me today, but i got it running again, was a loose connector on the ecu, still no power to the obd2. going to check for loose cables on the ecu. Does anyone have a link to a wiring diagram so i can figure out where this obd hooks up? Ive got the ecu pinout but that isnt really helping.

no dsmlink here. is there a way i can rewire the obd2 power source by any chance?

I was working on 96 gst with no power at the port.
Also no dome lights and no power to the windows and locks.
Turned out to be loose wires at the battery terminal.
The white ones going to the fuse box. Problem fixed!

Obd ports,usually get there power from the cig lighter circuit.

Make sure no pins or anything are pushed back in the port.

find the power wire at the port, and run a jumper wire to.it with batt voltage

just ran a jumper wire to my pin 16 and still nothing

mine did the same thing at advanced the other day with the lower end scanner, went to oreilly and it worked fine

mine was a blown window motor fuse -_- but still can't connect to the state computer.. will connect to ecmlink but i cannot find that box that i am supposed to uncheck, this is the first time ive had this issue and i've had this ecm for about 3 years
