Ah, gotchya, runnin open turbo, ya you would see generous gain over the restrictive stock exhaust doing that, does no good dumping all that hot exhaust gas on the alternator, but most def would free up hp over stock. And yes basically as you said, you would see the same results from a full 3" exhaust as disconecting it.

I didn't say I was running open turbo, there is a factory O2 housing bolted to the turbo, meaning the exhaust dumps downward under the car. I'm sure it does raise under the hood temps, and probably not the greatest for the turbo, but its a throw away 14b, and I've got a lifetime warranty on the alternator.

wel gentlemen, I'm done with DSM's. i guess what turned me off from um is how many problems mine had. I'm now focusing all my effort and money to my "SRT" PT cruiser. its WAY faster and 100 times more dependable. so farewell guys, maybe one day ill rejoin you with a better dsm.

P.S. dont hate me for it, its nothing personal.

I've been here several times. But, my Talon always stayed in the garage. Definitely understand where you are coming from, but, if you're a true DSMr, you'll be back. I'm just gonna write a list of a few cars that have come and gone during the 15 years I've had my Talon.

1. 88 Mazda RX7 10th anniv.
2. 00 Ford Focus Supercharged
3. 03 Z06 Vette
4. 04 EVO RS
5. 05 EVO GSR
6. 08 Forester XT Sport
7. 07 Porsche Cayman

Point is I still hold on to the DSM.

I think your project sounds cool though so good luck and we'll see you back here soon:D

Actually it has the same engine but is detuned. The brakes are not and suspension are not up to srt spec. So it wasnt given a srt badge.

I never said it was. You basically just confirmed exactly what I said. Thanks!

Seems like a rwd pt cruiser might have more potential than an already hopped up fwd neon. I think its a good choice,, even if its going to take more work and $$ to bring it up to srt spec. Only thing is,, PTs are ugly!

Oh Hey! I always thought PTs were rear drive! Whoa! This changes everything. I went ahead and googled it,, and discovered that the cruiser is based on an upgraded NEON platform. Oh well. Interesting how Chrysler managed to get away with categorizing the pt as a light truck! Thats absolute BS. Well,, VW and Chrysler have both in the past had actual fwd trucks....still bs. Anyway, good luck with the PT.

SRT PT? They dont make those.. They do make a turbo PT. Which is nothing like neons or caliber, and others my favorite is the jeep.

the "srt" motor was designed for the pt cruiser.... then the srt team inherited it. just FYI

OK.. I knew this would happen.. that's why i haven't had a reply until now after.. 30 some odd posts. LOOK.. im a frekin SSG in the US army. im not some kid in collage or something that has 24/7 to work on this thing. IF any of you had ever paid attention to any of my posts in the past you'd have noticed ive posed like 6 times about the car not running on all 4 cylinders for over a year now. I deployed defending our freedom so I did'int have the time to work on her. Dont get me wrong, i am a little pissy right now from all your bs, but i absolutely love dsm's. I am hard core dsmer. but i need something to get my ass around you know. So my wife is due for a new car. so ill just take the pt looser. YA ITS FREKIN UGLY. I don't really care. the engine has 100k miles on its and its never had a single issue. And the srt4 motor is a well preforming platform with allot of potential. And its really funny to beat some one down on the track with a frekin pt cruiser.. ppl give me the dumbest looks. I SWEAR TO YOU PPL I WILL BE BACK!. if you'd got my car you'd understand. I bough it from a buddy who bought it from a d bag that ripped him off cause I felt bad and fixed what I could, if you really want to know. I'm sry if any of you are mad at me for disowning the scene. But like i said. when I get my shit strait ill be able to buy a better DSM. And I am a very good mechanic for not having ANY training in the field. Its the wiring harness im sure, it must have been chewed on by a rat while I was gone or something and I don't have the funds to fix that kind of thing. BTW, the car is going to be pieced out, most of the car IS working, just wiring. and sorry for the extensive post, I had to reply to every one in one shot.

I can understand your frustration. I got rid of 2 absolute gems of dsm goodness because they were fraught with problems that I didnt understand at first. Just wanted a driver! But truth is, any turbo charged car is going to be problematic at some point. Its the nature of the beast. Newer cars are always better though because the kinks are constantly being smoothed out. DSM turbos were one of the first to push 100 hp per liter stock from the factory, and being available to the masses,, so the design was already pushed near the edge of the then current design and tuning capabilities. They are naturally maintenance intensive and can be a real pain when problems compound with other problems.

Where else are you going to go for an awd turbo fix on the cheap though??

and by 1992,mitsuishi was gettng 260hp out of a 2.0 (evo 1) and 210 from a 1.8 gsr! and 170 from a 1.7 by 93--go mivec!!

go mitsuish!:hellyeah:

well the Japanese were doing that kinda thing in general.

@toadstuhl

And now a pt cruiser? a family van?? somesone else got the pants onROFL

looks like its bugging you.

this is how you do it:

buy house, make sure it has a garage- stick your toys in the garage...fix em when they break..no nonsense from wife-job done!

My dsm isn't supposed to be a reliable car. I drive it every now and then and throw money into it when I have it. If its sitting in the garage then okay it's just a chance to make it quicker.

I got mine because of gas prices LOL. I figured if I'm gonna get a 4 cylinder, I might as well get something that's cheap, turbo, awd, and looks pretty sexy. Miss my mustang though.

I get very demotivated at times when it comes to my DSM. Sometimes you gota gauge what's worth it
