I always ran BPR7ES or Autolite #63's. I finally switched to BR7ES, and the car felt super lazy, ended up adding 3* of timing across the board, and could probably add another 1 or 2.

Is that typical? I'm at waaay more timing that I have ever ran, but the car is faster than it was, and is not knocking.

This is really Kinda veague

How much timing in what areas where you running before compare to now? or are you talking about your whole map or under load?

If you feel like posting a map of before and after or even desribing more specifically if you don't want to... .

You probably will get some better responces in that regaurd... Have you made any changes to your gap at all? what kind of gap are your running now? just curious.

Like I said the more info you can give the better advice you'll get ;)

I only added 3* from 4-7k at full boost. So at 26psi, I'm basically sweeping from about 16-23*

I run the car kinda on the lean side, 13.0.

I'm running a .025" gap, and used to run .020 on the BP's

I know each car is different but on the bpr's I was having bad break up after 5.5k at 18psi while it would go to redline at 17psi.. Switched to the br's with no other changes and can now run 20psi without issue. Note: I also tried running them at .022 but the car didn't like it. Regapped to .028 and all is great now.

I noticed similar going from a bpr6es to br6es

Thanks, I had read about non projected plugs wanting more timing due to the fire being farther from the center of the cc, but wasn't sure. I just can't believe how much timing it is wanting. I was 12-17* at 30psi on my old setup, any more and it knocked like crazy, any less and it lost power.

Now I'm 16-23* and I feel like I could add in more!

Yeah this isn't a breakup issue, but I used to have problems with breakup at 30psi and .021", gapped em down to .018" and the car would miss at cruize LOL.

It ever ends with these cars.

Yes that is normal. I don't know enough about the flame front and propagation to speak intelligently, but in laymans terms;

the spark starts further away from the piston now, so it takes more timing advance to create the same combustion process as when the plug was protruding down into the combustion chamber. It should probably be the same amount in degrees of crank rotation to get the piston in the same relative position to the flame front as before.

Plus it lowered your head cc by .3 which lowered your CR a tad, and the plug probably also cools quicker because of the lack of protrusion, both of which allow for more timing.

I noticed the same thing when I switched to non-projected plugs on my car. I get about 22* peak timing with 35 psi boost.

I know you're not having that issue I was just saying what happened with mine. When I changed I noticed an increase in response as to your decrease. The post above me gives good insight on it and is something we both can look into.

I ran br8es's at .018" and the car idled, and cruised great.

Agreed. I used to run .20 all day no issues. At 35psi spikes anything higher and I would get breakup.

But I ran non projected plugs for years and never relized all you guys still used projected plugs. LOL Anyways I dont remember there being a change in power. Us e85 guys ran them to help stop some knock and to help stop preignition which never happened anyways.

Just tune the car to what it likes. Dont be worried about what others have done. 22* timing is about max what you want. I like a solid timing down low instead of it ramping up. I have always done better with high timing in low and mid rpm.

Interesting...... very, very interesting. I'm still running the BPR6ES's.... and sometimes get some knock at high rpm.... Maybe need to switch out.
