So heres where i am with my car. I currently have the following...

Hahn 16g
full 3 inch exhaust
fmic
dsmlink v3
fic 850's
afpr
walbro 255hp
injen intake
greddy type s bov

So heres my question,

I haven't ever got the car tuned yet with the dsmlink and i want more power. Not sure if i should get it tuned for $550 or save up for a bigger turbo and then a tune?

I dont want to have to upgrade internals yet either. If i wanted to go bigger turbo would i need to buy much more than just the turbo?

Have you reached the full potential of the 16g?

If you haven't then I would go with a tune.

im not sure since i havent had it tuned yet. i installed the injectors, fuel pump, afpr, and dsmlink and havnt done any adjustments yet. I just dont wanna spend 550 for a tune if it wont get me much more power. rather save for a bigger turbo.

......then have it tuned and you will know.

In all honesty with all bolt on mods and not tuning, the 16g is not being full unitized.

You should post a log since you have ecmlink.

What is the point in having link if YOUR not going to use it? And why upgrade a turbo if you don't know if its running at its full potential?

Save your money, read up on link, and tune it yourself! If you have some patience and can read & apply what you've read, then there is no reason to pay someone $550 to do what you can do for free!

I agree you should tune the car first and enjoy what you have purchased so far. The car should feel pretty good on that setup up but only with the right tune. Look around for a reputable tuner and get it done.

your car probally is not running good right now....TUNE IT

why not just read the tuning guide on the link forums and go from there..there is plenty of helpful people on there and alsong as you post logs will help you basically step by step with your tune. and once you learn, you'll love it and have a great skill..

so basically TUNE THAT CAR, and you will be blown away at the difference it will make, im sure your running super rich right now and loosing alot of power.

Ill jump on the bandwagon too. You would be surprised how much more power you can get from a tune, but it might not necessarily be total horsepower, but horsepower under the curve. I would personally get it fine tuned (actually, you have Link, so I would do it myself if I were you) but you will really be surprised how much different a car can feel from getting the fueling and timing correct.

This. Tune the car yourself, crank up the boost, tune some more, and enjoy what should be an easy 350hp setup.

And to answer your question about internals, even a 20g would be creeping up on the limits of your stock 7-bolt. So there isn't much room for growth as it is, enjoy the 16g until it's time for a rebuild.

I don't feel that engine internals are just going to fail with any certain turbo and/or horsepower number. I mean obviously shouldn't expect a stock 7-bolt to make 1000whp, but the engine's condition as well as your tune have more to do with it than the turbo.

If you have a 16G and you're running 28psi on a lousy tune with a tired old 7-bolt that is allowing a shitload of hot combustion gases to seep into the crankcase, you're going to be a lot worse-off in terms of engine reliability than a guy running 28psi with a perfect tune and a 20G bolted to a 7-bolt with 180psi across the deck.

No. You should not even worry about anymore upgrades until you have a wideband. If you don't even have a wb I hope you just tuned the injectors and are running wastegate pressure, if not that is dumb a wb is one of the most important things to have when modding a Dsm. That's IMO.

no, you are going to need a wideband reguardless of who tunes it. you can grab a LC-1 / MTX-L for about 165 on ebay. a very needed investment, you shuld have baught a long time ago.

read this first, and give it a shot http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-tuning-ecu/262460-basic-dsmlink-tuning-guide.html

if you truley dont feel comfortable tuning yourself with link, msg my1gdsm he can tune remotley for you, for about half the price than a shop would. just make sure you have your wideband hooked up.

If you havn't done the basic tune to get you injector palse and MAF set correctly then I suggest you get your car running ok and then take it to a shop with a dyno and tune it correctly. Street tunning is hard and difficult to learn if you have no idea and it will be easier to have someone do it for you, that is if they know what they are doing. DSMlink V3 makes it pretty easy but there are still shops that say they know what they are doing when they don't even have a clue.

And instead of a bigger turbo, have you considered running E85 with those injectors? They should be big enough for a 16g just barely. And you need a wideband, AEM makes a decent one that sells on ebay for around $150 new with everything you need.

Im running full bolt-ons and a small 16g at 20psi...The power is great and i maxxed out my yellow top injectors before the turbo. idk who is charging you 550 for a tune thats just flat out to expensive i wouldnt tune it yourself that can lead you to really messing up the car and spending more money. But to answer your question find someone to tune it unles you have an idea on what your doing and enjoy the 16g and how to car runs while you can piece together a big boy build the right way and make big power and have the car run for more then 4 months out of the year.

Yes, E85 would be an option as well.

But I would sugest head studs for any level of boost that would make REALLY good use of E85 Just as reassurance (more so on a 7 bolt) in you wanted to try to push a 16G past what you Can/Should on Pump Gas.

WHATEVER you Do OP trust me don't buy a AEM wideband. A quick search on here will net you a half dozen good reasons not to... .

A Innovate LC-1 would be your best option if you don't already have a wideband.

I'd say a tune(regaudless of how you get one) and Wideband would be a much better investment... . if down the road you want more you could always good bigger But with out seeing what your current setup can offer IMHO there is not reason to go bigger yet :thumb:

it was atlantic motorsports in maryland that told me $550 to tune. Ive just heard good things about them and figured they were the shop to ask. Ive also heard of ISP in maryland but havnt got in touch with them yet. Ive just gotten to the point that im tired of the car being untuned and its too frustrating trying to figure out DSMLink on my own. I dont want to mess this car up as it only has 30k original miles on it. Id like it tuned right.
