Alright guys, i just bought a 2g mani for my 1g. When i get it in, i plan on porting it. But my question is, how much on average would somebody at a shop charge to port it. People have told me to port it, but i dont have the proper tools for the job. So how much will it probably cost to port it.

Thanks in advance

At a shop. Are you high? How deep are your pockets?

Even if you go buy a dremel right now, and the bits.It should cost less than getting a local shop to do anything.

to add onto what bud said, not only will it be cheaper, but you'll have a dremel afterwards to keep for many more projects to come. well worth it over taking it to a shop.

I personally used a carbide bit with an air powered rotary tool, took me about 1 hour to get in the general shape and another 1/2 hour to get it to perfectly fit the gasket.

This!

I would do it for pretty much free.

Dang, ive heard shops were a lot cheaper then you guys are making them sound. And, ive already bought the 2g mani, so buying an evo mani isnt an option. Okay, i will probably just do it myself. I am great at wood working but metal, i dont know. I just dont what to screw anything up. Is there a how to somewhere out there i could go off of.

That totally answered his question.

Some people choose to have work done for them because of the skill that is involved. If its his first time he may want to practice on a manifold first. My first porting looked like a mess compared to a FP port or another professional. I know for me its hard to do a lot of my own work since I live in a stupid apartment.

I would say anywhere form 100-150 it would cost. You might be better off saving for a FP manifold, or wait till they go on sale. I have never heard of someone needing to port an FP manifold, although a polishing job to smooth the casted material sounds nice.

Isn't that his question, same as the thread title. Its one thing to answer and post additional advice or data, then to just not answer it. Yea it would cost less if you did it yourself, that still doesnt give him an estimate.

If you never learned to color close to the lines, and you still swing the crayon wildly around the paper, you should consider having a professional do it. It will probably cost $50-100 to do it. I have a friend who puts on trance music in his headphones and goes to a place inside his head. He finds it theraputic (I can see why!), so he is willing to port just about anything for me for free. In return I put the things he ports on the flow bench and tell him how to modify the ports. It works out really well, can't wait to do 4g63 stuff.

There are so many how-tos, and you'll get a feel for it when you chop into your 1g manifold. You'd be a fool to have the very first thing you port be your 2g mani.

Exhaust Manifold Porting

SAFETY EQUIPMENT IS VERY IMPORTANT. Eye, ear, lung, and hand proteection are very important. Loose fitting gloves and clothing can get caught in the rotary part of the tool. If you have long hair, tie it up and put it under a hat or down the back of your shirt. An air tool wrapped up in itself will be locked in the full on position and fight as hard as it can to eat everything it can.

to be honest, you can probally grab a ported 2g mani for about 50$, and would be cheaper than having it ported for you. then u can just sell the 2g mani you already baught(or keep it and TRY porting yourself, its a cool skill to have, and may be fun to try.)....but that if that sounds like alot of work for you, then i would think roughly 65-85 or so to have it ported by a shop.

100-150 sounds right.

If you do consider porting it yourself, be careful, if you get serious port tools for use with an air tool its pretty easy to blow through the side of a 2G manifold. There are lots of fun videos about how to port things, and bigger runner isn't always better. Bernoulli's Law ftw in this case.

Good luck!

Electric Die Grinder with Long Shaft Go to harbor freight and pick up one of these. This will take forever with a dremil. There is really no way to mess it up doing it yourself. Just grind the lip off where the sealing ring fits and smooth it out.
