im new to dsm i have a stock 1999 gst

I was looking at either a 20g turbo or evo3 16g turbo

My main question is doi need to build up the motor and tranny to be able to run the 20g at full power.

Any help would be great. I have already baught a 3inch exhaust with downpipe that is coming in soon.

how much power are you looking to make? do you plan on running it on the street at all? it all depends on what your trying to do

its gonna be my eveyday driver i mean i would like to make as much power as i can without swapping for a better engine but dont mind building it up

in that case I would put in the 16g, a 255 fuel pump with a afpr and 550cc injectors and you'll be good to go

there are a lot of variables in making your decison, such as: power goals, type of driving, BUDGET, ect...

my goal would be to get 400hp but wouldnt mind getting 350hp...for a budget this is my first project as i am 18 but i do have a job so imma buy part by part...this will be street car but might take to the track once in a while to see what i run

okay i know this a repeated question but i do have an evo 816g turbo i was going to sell it to get a turbo for my car since it wont fit but saw that you can buy plate that will fit to a dsm.

Dont be a dick when answering i hav seen people go off on replies about this im just wondring if it is true and if so worth it

No, but you'll need a heap of supporting mods to make either turbo worth having. Without more fuel and a way to tune you'll be stuck at 10-12psi with either turbo, so you'll have added a ton of lag with no additional performance benefit.

Bigger turbos need more boost to make them useful.

Unless this adapter has a way to relocate the raditator to the rear of the car in order to make room for the turbo, this is not a good idea. There's a reason Evo VIII 16G's only sell for $150 in good used condition....they're useless to anyone except an Evo owner.

The concept has been tried, and abandoned.

regardless of what you go with.. be careful with your boost levels..

I ran about 25 pounds on my 7 bolt / e316g combo.. all was well for about 200 miles, wideband was reporting excellent.

Then just yesterday, BAM! threw a rod through the oil pan.

dropping in a 6 bolt now ;)

If you need your car for Daily Driver Status, I wouldnt monkey around too much, keep boost around 15psi, or plan on dropping some cash on a built motor as well.

okay so i need bigger injectors what size and fuel pump i was thinking about a walbro 255 ...should i get the dsmlink or is there something better...i also have ordered a air intake with k&n fiter..now im pretty sure i"ll need a front mount intercooler...what else am i missing

dsmlink v3 will have more than enough capibilities for tuning, i have a friend runnin a mid-high sec gsx on it and people who daily run it, once i have the money il also be running it. goal is 350hp daily also. enough for fun and safe enough hp for reliability on stock internals. GET DSMLINK no doubt. just try to find a working 2g eprom ecu. if not any 95-97 ecu can be eprom-ed for an extra 150 when you order. overal cost just around 700$ for v3. well worth it

Get a Front mount intercooler,
16g,
evo 560cc injectors,
safc or dsmlink or a data logger,
walbro 255ilb fuel pump,
maintenance uto date!

If you are making this your daily driver and a few times at the track, I say E16G.

If you are tracking it all the time being FWD, I say 20G turbo lag will help with traction.

First off, do all basic maintenance, follow the upgrade paths found on this site. I would personally start out with ecmlink v3 or v3 lite and learn how to do a basic tune on your car with what you got and get your car running smooth. Then follow the basic upgrade paths and tweek any nessicary tuning. Ecmlink will get even a stock car running way better.

This guy has the right idea. If I were you, this is what I would do-
-evo 3 16g
-walbro 255
-evo 560's
-ecmlink lite
-fmic
-stock 2g MAS
-manual boost controller

The 560's and the 2g MAS will allow the car to run at stock boost levels no problem. Then you can get used to tuning with ecmlink, and start to make your car quicker. It will be a fun daily, and will meet your goals just fine.

Talk about bringing an old post back after more than a year since the last reply...hopefully if he's still in his build he gets notification that his thread all of a sudden started getting replies after not having any after for so long.

Dude, can you help me?! I just rebuilt my whole motor in my 95 Talon TSI. I put a small 16g turbo, 16g turbine headers, aftermarket inter cooler, 255 Wal. fuel pump, and I have a set of 880cc injectors, that I didn't throw in yet. I also put on a fuel regulator, boost gauge.. My car holds 20psi/idling. But as soon as it hits between 7-10pounds/psi. The car shakes/wants to shut down.. Wtf is going on with it? If needs tuned etc. How can I do that? I don't have no dyno's around here for AWD. But I also can smash the gas from take off, ha ####n' super lag!! Hold it in, once it hits around 30-40mph, turbo kicks in, and once it hits 7-10psi. car wants to shut down/shakes.

^ I see fuel and turbo mods. But no tuning mods.

Your going to want a chip, dsmlink,or a flashable ecu to compensate for those fuel mods.

Put your fuel back to stock everything.Run 10-12 psi and see what happens.
