I've been restoring my long dead 2g with a 6 bolt swap and I came across this rogue lone connector. Following the 2g Engine Harness tech guide, it is not pictured or used. I've looked in the area and can't find anything it would hook to also. Its located on the forward engine harness that has the MAF sensor, cruise actuator, coupler harness (connects front and rear engine harness') and BCS harness. Its in a T shape with a thick black/white stripe wire on top, a light blue wire in the middle, and a thick black/yellow stripe wire on the side. Other plug side is empty. I thought since the wires were decently thick it carried power to something.

Anyone have an idea where this goes to? Is it necessarily needed? I'm at the point where a couple short coolant hoses (oil filter housing), a few vac lines and some oil and I can attempt to turn this beast over.

And yes, I know that connector is gross looking, its just old dielectric grease :p

pretty sure thats for the alternator 'relay'. its not needed, but is there as a backup in case the light on the dash burns out.

from everything ive read, if you do want to put one on it, you have to go to the dealer because its not a standard relay.

Hmmm... well I don't have fog lights so no worries on that end. If its just a relay for the alternator, is there a part # stamped on it? I do not think I ever had something connected to that before the tear down, and never had battery or electrical issues so I should be safe leaving it as it is right?

Well I found out some info on it. It is an alternator safety relay used to turn the battery light on the dash on. Part # MD128752 and is $25 from discountmitsubishiparts.com

I think I'll run without it at first, then get it later maybe. Thanks Hortanica (hey you sold me those parts!!) which worked perfect. Got them in and hooked up just gotta get some coolant lines and it'll be started up!

Yes it's what Mitsu calls the "generator relay". It's a backup in case your dash battery light goes out in which case your alt would stop charging if this relay is not there. As long as your battery light is working (which you can see when you first turn key to On), you're ok if you don't want to replace this relay.

Yes. THIS!!! I did a wire tuck in my 2g this past winter and didnt think I needed it, well turns out the alternator wouldnt charge the battery without it.. The battery light wouldnt come on without this "relay" either. Just my experience.

If you ever need any more parts, or even if you have issues and want some help, send me a pm or text, as you know im a few hours away but i love driving the car so id come drop off some parts/give ya a hand!
