okay, so i think i have a blown headgasket..
i just need some of the smarter guys too confirm it for me,
even though i really dont wanna hear the truth..
okay so..

i swapped turbos (13g to bullseye power to4b
)
my car was not an automatic, just imported motor from jdm.com
anyways, the swap went good, oil lines connected good, recirculated the water lines , fixed boost leaks, etc.
anyways,
when i go to fire it up, i notice oil leaking on the ground, (only when car is running)
and water from tail pipe.. i figured the water was okay, cause it was the first time starting up.. figured it was just condensation.
so i check the oil out on the ground, and i noticed, on the bottom left hand side of the head, theres a little oil.
so i took the valve cover off, retorqued the head bolts cause they were loose.
put it all back together,
and started it up, it had a little struggle to start, and ran really rough, and water looked like it was shooting out from my tubular manifold!
no knocking or anything.
i didnt pay attention to my a/f i was so worried about what was going on=\
i never drove the car with the new turbo, not once.
its still on jack stands now
i just started it up.
if anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated..
but i think its a blown head gasket..
and if anyone is selling one and arp head studs please pm me..

anyways thanks.. =\

computer messed up, sorry.
did not mean to post 3 times.

If oil is shooting out of the tubular manifold...make sure that the exhaust stud is not leaking oil. You might want to take the studs out and apply some rvt sealant on. Also try a compression test/leak down test (might be better in this situation).

Tim

The head studs were loose? How loose? That isn't a good sign. I would do a leak down test to confirm it. If you got the block and the headstuds were loose I would be concerned with everything else in the motor. Make sure everything is hooked up properly. But yes it sounds like your headgasket is messed up.

not too bad.
but i may be in luck.
no more oil leaks at all.
but coming from the stock turbo, i recirculated my water lines, with brand new hose and clamps.
they leak, and thats where the coolant is coming from, but idk how to stop it!! =[
what do you guys use?
also.. i believe i have some sort of boost/vacuum leak.
when started, if i give it gas it dies.

all IC clamps are tight, i even have some doubled up.
and where is a good place to run my ewg vacuum line?
i have it "t'd" into the bov to intake line but i dont think thats a good place.
anyways thanks for the replies!

also, even on stock turbo, i never seen more than 10 psi (stock ewg spring pressure) never.

anyone?

no, oil was coming from underneath the right side corner of the head, its fine now though.
just water leaking from my coolant lines.
and a little hard start.
does anyone know where i can get a nipple to stick in my IC pipes? for my ewg vacuum line. or tell me the name of it.
and im gonna go pick up a leak down tester today

okay good news. car runs, no leaks, but it will not go above 3k rpm.
im guessing vaccum leak.
but idk where from?!?!
and my ewg vacuum line is blocked off for now, idk where to tap it into.
but im going to pull the head reguardless and install a new gasket and arp's!
can anyone help with the ewg vacuum line?

Then I don't understand how the head gasket is blown unless you have changed it.

dude me either? i think i have a vaccum leak, it wont go above 3k rpm, so im guessing its the head gasket.
but im gonna change it anyways, install some arp head studs.
change t-belt and water pump since imma pull the head.
but where is a good place to draw vacuum for my ewg?
ive tried "teeing" into my bov, and the nipple on the intake manifold, and it made my car run bad. so im completly lost now.

Your wastegate needs to be hooked up to a boost source like the compressor outlet or j pipe outlet. If you have an MBC then the line should go from the WG to the MBC to the boost source. Nothing should be hooked up to lines involving your intake manifold.

I have used intake ports to run the waste gate before no problem.

I've got mine hooked to the throttle body and it works pretty good. Pretty much had no choice with the aftermarket j pipe.

Never tried it there I always figured the outlets there would lack the flow to actually open the gate. Good to know thou.:thumb:

this turbo has no j pipe, its a downfiring turbo. guess i gotta tap a nipple into my turbo or I.C piping.

okay, so i pulled codes, only code is a "manifold differntial pressure sensor"
i took it for a spin today, it starts up, acts funny, lopes for a quick second then idles fine.
but if you give it gas and let it get over 2k at idle, it dies when the rpms fall.
no leaks. well in i.c piping that is. but NOTHING else was touched.
if its a leak im guessing headgasket.
cause of the loose head bolts before.
only thing i could think of is im still running a stock intake tube on my turbo,
when driving it builds boost a little, but then falls on its face at like 3k ish.
ugh its stressing me out.
too much fuel? not enough fuel?
at idle my wideband read in the 14's
if you give it gas, and let it idle a little longer, it goes into low 13's high 12's

Have you checked the MAF? It will act like that if its bad or not hooked up.

hey man, yeah i unplugged the mass air flow, and it acted horrible.
it idles fine, just when you give it gas it dies.
and the spark plugs are BRAND NEW. bpr6es i believe.

it all started after i installed the new turbo.
thats the only thing i touched.
and i dont under stand?
it is a bigger turbo, but man, this is crazy.

no, but i can pull the codes again.
its only showing the mdps.
and im actually about to install a evo 9 fuel pump,
and not safc yet. im looking for one.

also, i just installed bpr6es's
and now theyre black.
my o2 is good.
maybe with the new turbo, should i go with 7es?
only cel is the manifold pressure sensor
