I concur.

This is information from the old virtual engine bay site:

>>It controls an air connection between the evaporative emissions charcoal canister and the intake system. The charcoal canister is designed to absorb fuel vapors that come from the fuel tank for emissions purposes. The purge solenoid allows the ECU to connect the canister to the engine intake - when connected, the gasoline vapors are drawn in to the engine and burned off. The solenoid is there so that the outlet from the canister may be closed when the car is not running.>>

I thought it was one of the control valves for emissions... I could be wrong though.

I thought I read about removing it to easily get to your throttle cable in one of the cruise control delete threads and they referred to it as that.

EDIT: The Wisemen beat me to it... LOL

i dont know what they are named, but i unplugged both of those and capped the throttle body off. I also unplugged them and have not thrown a code or has it effected performance. If i remember there is a thread in FAQ on here thats lists all of them.

Edit: 19eclipse90 won.

fuel pressure solenoid!! i had a code thrown for that p1105 just replace it, go to a pick n pull.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Any ides why it would randomly start ticking really loud? my first thought was the lifters until i got closer to listen and realized that it was the mechanism. Do you think it's gone bad and needs a replacement?

did you try to unplug it? unplug it and report what happen . nothing should happen when you unplug it but it will for sure rule out if its really the one that is ticking . i never heard of evap solenoid ticking before so lets see. :)
