Okay, I've put the same post on dsmtalk.com. Im trying to get someone to help. I have a 91 eclipse gsx. Bought the car not running. Got it running pretty good. However the check engine light comes on. It comes on after turning the car off and trying to restart it. For example: i drive the car 15 minutes, park it for 5 minutes, try to restart it, and the check engine light is on. It idles rough when on and feels like its running on 2 cylinders. It can barely stay on. But after letting it sit overnight or for an extended amount of time, the car will start and run fine:confused:. If anyone can help, that would be great. Im open for anything

Thanks:thumb:

maybe something loose? check all your fuses and anything electrical, try getting the code read if you can find a parts store that reads obd1 codes and that should narrow it down

sounds like it could be misfiring, idk not enough info. have you tried a tune up?

try doing a compression test or leak down test it sound like internal issues with the (sounding like its running on 2 cylinders thing rings/valves ) also check for boost leak and when did you change the o2 sensor last this has happened to me many times with the check engine. just remember to start with the simple fixes first ie plugs, wires ect

check the maf sensor itself. missing pieces of the honey comb or even a dirty maf sensor. check o2 sensor too. do you have a wideband? check if its running rich or lean. my car had the same problem a couple weeks ago. i check all pipes and everything. all connected. changed the upstream o2 sensor ran fine for a day. it did felt like it ran on 2 cylinders. took it to the shop they had no idea. read the cel i had for 2 years which was the iac motor and said it was that. i changed a brand new one in and still wasn't it. drove the car home, every stop light my car died. check the maf sensor and the honey comb was gone. changed the maf sensor and now it runs strong. hope this help.

I also had a similar issue with my 92, ended up being the Temperature Coolant Sensor.

Either way, about the only true way to find out what is triggering the CEL is to have codes checked.

Good Luck
