Hi,
I just built my 420a and i was driving it and everything was awesome and all of a sudden the starter didnt work at all. The starter isn't turning over at all and its not seized up. So i took my relays off and they had this like vasoline substance in them and i was wondering if its supposed to be like that and how i can check if they still work. I uploaded two pictures. one of the actual relays and one of the plugs. the plugs show off the vasoline stuff more.

It came off the line with that stuff on it :p All of them have it. Even if those relays where bad it wouldn't affect your starter, your problem is probably elsewhere.

Dead battery, Loose cables Check those first.

I check the cables and i even changed the terminal plugs because they weren't tight enough. i completely ran a new ground aswell. Anything else that would be the problem?? all i put in were three gauges and they are run off of my stereo. It was running and starting great an hour before this happened!! it is becoming very frustrating.

Have you the checked your fuse's a.d stuff like that. It sound's like an open in the starter circuit somewhere, It's somthing simple do panic

the radio works and i can here my fuel pump when i first turn the key and my gauges turn on. there is power getting to the starter on the red caped cable. i have checked every single fuse i can find. i have pulled all of them out and checked them. the wires at the starter are tight and secure and hooked up properly.

If the theirs power getting the the starter and it still wont spin then it has seized or the soenoid has gone bad.. i got a good one if you want it s got harness and all with it to.

Ok I'm having the same problem guys but I know my fault was I accidentally grounded the battery while installing a bolt on and now my lights come on but starter just clicks like a dead battery I tried jumping it off but no luck

I had this same problem. It worked perfectly fine then after a clutch job it wouldnt start. It was the starter relay. Im surprised no one mentioned the starter relay under the dash behind the radio. Just because you hear it clicking when you try and turn it over doesnt mean its sending 12v to the starter solenoid. I just replaced the stater relay and it worked again. FYI to the OP the 2 relays you posted are just the fuel pump and ASD relay NOT the starter relay.
