I bought a '97 2g GSX project a few months back and the ECU wasnt installed. It was just laying in a box. How can I tell if its the stock ECU or if its an older one? Im not sure if previous owner purchased this one for DSM Link and thats why it wasnt installed or if its the stock one. I would like to know if the one I have is LINK ready before I go and buy one that is. What visual things can I look at to see if its Link ready? Thank you in advance and any feedback will be greatly appreciated

Well, yes. It would help if it was an EPROM, but they can do conversion's now if it isn't. Also it could be a flashable ECU. If it's an EPROM it needs to be socketed and have the reprogramable chip installed. If it's not EPROM you could send it in and have it converted to EPROM.

Got a p/n, and possibly post a pic of the inside of it?

It is metal and I believe it has 3 or 4 spots to insert plugs into it. I am currently not at home so I dont have access to the numbers on it nor can i post a pic of the inside but I will be able to do that tomorrow

If it is metal it is not a 98-99. Nothing else can be said without pics, or you opening it up and look at the link I posted.

Okay I will take a look at the link. My car is a 97. Does that make a difference? Are the 97 ecu's metal or plastic? Thank you for the info

The only stock EPROM ecu for a 2g is only found in. A 95. The problem is 95-97 ecus are all the metal ones so you can only tell if it's EPROM or not by taking the cover off.

That link was definitely helpful. I learned alot that I didnt know. Thank you very much for the help and I will pull it apart tomorrow. Do you know approx price to have an eprom socketed? Thanks again
