2g 4g63t. My talon has an aftermarket underdrive crank pulley so I not have timing marks. So I put my number 1 cylinder at tdc using a straw in the spark plug hole. Once at tdc the timing marks on my cam gears wear lined up perfectly. Can I assume my timming is good? Sorry for such a noob question but I just want to be sure. Thanks

You're talking apples to oranges here. The crank pulley is used for electrical timing, which is changed using the CAS and a timing light. To check MECHANICAL timing you need to remove the pulley and your timing cover and check to see that all marks are lined up.

He was asking for belt timing, not actual ignition timing...thus it's mechanical.

The Keyword here (missing) is the 'TDC'.

Had a car that was hard to see pulley marks and did the straw trick, but I rolled the crank pulley back and for to make sure the straw was at the highest positon between the rolls and looked at the cam sprocket (SOHC) marks which did align up...for TDC belt settings.

it's the light where you need the true BTDC settings..

Since you're using the solid pulley, scratch a mark on the pulley to match up to the "T" on the timing cover so you'll know next time where you're at on the next time you have a question.

Also, the dowel pin on the crank sprocket, at TDC, should be at the 3:00 positon.

Maybe its my ignition timing I need to check. I was under the impression the timing once all the same. Basically my car wont start. I have spark, air, fuel and compression. The car cranks strong but no sign of ever starting. Cam and crank sensors are all working properly so I assumed my timing was off.
