my 95 GST came with the tape only deck, i want to put in a cd player, aftermarket would rock but it's too much hassle, re-wire speakers,
does the stock infinity CD/tape deck play CD-R's/RW?
What are the specs?? watts? RMS?
Will it work on my GST even tough i had tape deck?
How hard is it to install?

Do a search youll find about 20 threads about the infinity deck. As far as playing cd's that have been written, Hmm maybe its the speed that it is written or the my computer software but there is a 70 percent chance that my infinity player will play it. Yet when I burn on other computers it almost always plays it.

stock its 210 watts sounds great for a stock system when i bought my car all i put in 2 orion 12's and a orion hcca 225 it sounded awsome. then later i went out but i was really pleased .. plus if anyone looked in they saw the stock cd player and didin't think too much

Which radio head do you have, double DIN or single?

In the trunk you'll find the DIN cable for the changer should already be there, but on a 95 it's probably for the 6CD changer.

Do you have the amp under the seat? If not, they're dirt cheap now, and plug right in. It also takes a DIN cable, which I think should also be there on an Eclipse (Talons only got them if ordered from the factory [I don't know if this was a dealer-installed option]).

In my Talon, I went with the double-DIN head with both cassette and CD, then a 10CD changer in the trunk, and the amp. It plays CD-Rs fine, I've not tried a RW in it.

Specs are DAMNED hard to find.

I've been through much of the mill on this, let me know of other questions.

Rewire speakers..? If you can connect 10-15 wires using crimpers, or soldering (and/or heat wrapping) you can hook up an aftermarket deck. Don't be scared.

I went with alpine mp3, plus wired subs/amps etc... and it was easy to set up. hook up a stereo once and you'll laugh that anyone pays to have it done by someone else. I would never pay someone for an install anything near my car, unless it would suck to do (not fun, time consuming.. can you say alarm and remote start?)

To answer both questions, yes the factory unit is GREAT, and Guzman its best to use the Infinity amp because you have six 4 ohm speakers and will overload an aftermarket head units front amp wiring 4 in parallel.

Metra makes an adapter thats cheap enough that will allow you to run an aftermarket and use the infinity amp. Its under $30 and comes with the DIN cable to RCA adapter that used to only come from a couple companies and cost $70+ 12 years ago.
