Need a little help trying to figure out if I should go with a front mount intercooler or just upgrade my stock intercooler pipes. I'm looking to have about 300hp and I currently have a big 16g, 2g turbo manifold, 2.5 inch turboback exhaust and a dejon air intake installed on my 1g dsm. Also I have a body kit if I go with the front mount is there anyway possible to install this without removing the kit? My plans were to just upgrade my upper pipe but since shopping around I found that I can get a front mount for like a $150 more. Any help with this would be great.

With the abundance of cheap FMIC Kits , Punishment, MAP and VRSF there is no reason to just upgrade your SMIC.

You will have to remove the bumper to install the FMIC kit, some trimming may be required based on your bumper, but you may not have to do any at all.

Just upgrade the fmic its not much more than what you would pay for smic hard piping. I like the punishment racing and vrsf ones and are both fairly cheap (i picked up a vrsf from someone $250 new :D)

I would definately just get a FMIC, just a little more money than getting hard piping for the stock one. Most likely I'm pretty sure you will have to trim out part of your bumper, well at least on my 2g I did. Depends on which FMIC you get and what kind of bumper you have.

I would upgrade, for the money there are some good kits out there. Punishment Racing and VRSF have received a lot of attention and reviews on here for their 1g kits, there are plenty of threads to search through for your personal preference. I personally have the PR kit and would not recommend it.

Since you have a 16g and running boost over 16psi on the stock SMIC causes heat soaking you should get a cheap short route intercooler, get the punnishment IC off ebay or something similar. And short route means the intercooler pipes go straight out the back of the IC instead of out the sides making it a million time easier and cleaner to install. Way less cutting ect. with a sort route, you can do everything with a saws all.
