I just installed a different head after my timing belt went. Everything is back together and the break-in period is over. Last night i revved past 5,000 rpm. for the first time and noticed it was struggling, I let off at 5,500. Then a riced-out Honda cruised by so i stepped on it, went to about 6,000 rpm's, now theres a huge cloud of smoke behind my car. I opened the hood to notice my dipstick shot up, and oil sprayed all over the underneath of my hood, then dripped all over the motor and exhaust. What could be the problem? I already replaced the PCV valve and does the same thing???

so there must be another reason for CC pressure to build up.. or is that just standard with large turbos?

There are several reasons CC pressure can build up, and it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the turbo or how much boost you are running. The only way to know how much CC pressure you have is to measure it. If it's not excessive, then a new OEM dipstick will probably fix the issue. If it is high, then a big $$$ fancy spring-loaded dipstick is just covering up the problem...it does nothing to help the seals in your engine.

calan... build me a catch can!

Show me the money. :)

do you have a link to a write up on how to weld AN fittings to the PCV ports?

No, and I don't recommend it. You are better off welding dedicated fittings above the baffles.

Well I think you take the prize for oldest thread revival, and posting on a topic with the most information available (other than maybe recirculating the BOV). :)

Fix your CC pressure issue.... crushing the dipstick and everything else is just putting a band-aid on it. You've probably seen this, but here it is again for those that haven't: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-engine-fuel/366890-4g63t-pcv-system.html

you should lose 100 tech post for that one..LOL... almost a decade ROFL

Calan's catch cans are amazing in person, im buying one as soon as i divorce my wife:thumb:

pcv system puts boost in your case, eliminate your pcv system and put a catch can/filter on there.... will keep your turbo/piping/IC from getting oil on them from the intake tract...

Wrong. A catch can vented to atmosphere can only evacuate any pressure higher than atmospheric pressure. It needs a vacuum.

A properly functioning PCV system relieves excess crankcase pressure by using vacuum from the intake pipe.

A malfunctioning PCV valve can cause the dipstick to pop out by not allowing excess pressure to be evacuated..

Bad blowby can do the same.

for the record my dip stick is brand new 1g metal one, still popped out, but i recrimped it it should be fine, and if it doesnt i have springs to attach, #### spending 55 bucks on STM LOL 2 dolla napa springs will do just fine! ill show you the money when payday comes which is soon so you might have some business on your hands:thumb:

Have you seen how crappy your oil looks when you eliminate the PCV valve? The proper fix is a good (new), non-leaking PCV valve.

I was just curious why you put a 1g dip stick on? I have a 1g talon and actually put a 2g dip stick on because I think they look better, and the 2g oil dipstick fits tighter, (well it does for me at least)

From what I can see in your engine bay photos it appears that you left your PCV valve connected when you switched over to the LL Gatorade bottle CC setup. If you want to run it that way you've still got to do it RIGHT or you'll continue to blow the dipstick out going into boost.

You need to run this check valve between the intake manifold and your oem pcv valve in the v/c! 3/8" Kynar® Standard Check Valves | U.S. Plastic Corp.

Even a new oem pcv valve can leak boost from the intake manifold back into the crankcase which in turn can do things like push the dipstick out of the dipstick tube.;) These check valves from usplastic are rated to 150psi!! They are a rock solid check valve that cannot be beat and they're cheap too. Good luck:thumb:

its easy replace you pcv and the problem will do away. Remove it from the engine and shake it...if it rattles its good. if not replace. cheap part easy fix. :rocks:

if that doesnt fix it read into the link below

PCV help

OK i have a 1990 talon tsi awd and every time i get on it in my car my dip stick pops up and sprays under my hood is does anyone know what the prob could be and any way to fix it:cry:

You think that a when a dipstick pops out, it's a good sign of something just isn't right and needs remedying..instead of putting a "band-aid" over it and hope it heals itself...

Quoted for truth.

If you have a proper crankcase evacuation setup and still have issues like this there is a much bigger problem at hand :|

Can't go wrong though with the US plastics check valves as said even brand new PCV's don't do the best job though you still want to keep them depending on your setup as the act as a metering device for flow as well... .

Ive just taoped a 1/8npt fitting on it :d

I took my car out and went around my block when I came back I noticed my dip stick lifted up and it looked like oil came out is this my pcv valve? Has anyone used a vacuum manifold before? If so what to people think of them.

IT could be from a bad check valve in the pcv valve. It could also be excessive blow by, or it could just be an old worn out dip stick. IF the stick doesn't fit tight than it will blow out even on a healthy engine.
