Background:
So I bought a 1992 Eagle Talon from a kid that didn't know much about the history on it. Knew it had an Evo 16g, bigger injectors (didn't know the size), wally 255 pump, and some other stuff. When I got home I found the injectors were leaking, power steering leaks badly, and it was running way way rich (of course). It also had a check engine light on.

Here is the original ad:
1992 Eagle Talon tsi Awd(clean)
So I ordered injector oring kits, emailed PTE the serial numbers off the injectors and poked around the car some.

What I found out:
The car had a 1990 FWD California non-EPROM ECU. I didn't think a 91-94 car could even use a 1990 ECU? So I found an ECMLink v3 on the dsmtrader and installed it on Friday.

Where I am now:
injectors are fixed, ECMLink installed. The car starts but dies after 1 or 2 seconds. After a while it will run, but it runs really rough. I also hear odd noises from engine bay that I'm not too pleased. Plan on getting some video of it tomorrow.

I have the injector size and MAF set correctly; but I'm looking for things to try out. Is it *possible* that this thing is wired to run on a 90 ECU and the injectors aren't firing correctly?

I did attach a log file. If this is not the correct forum to post to, please move accordingly.

Thanks
Paul

The ECUs can be made to fit different years 91 94, I wired my 90 ECU into my 91 when I had it, switching pins 6 and 14, if I remember its been years. That could be a issue, again I haven't done that in a long time.

well, the original ECU in the car I replaced was a 90, the one with the ECMLink is a 91. Going to try the 1990 ECU tomorrow to see if the noise goes away.

Just re-read the craigslist ad I bought it from. Could it have a 90 ECU because the "JDM" engine ?

Put the stock 90 ECU back in and it ran much better. So it looks like the 6 bolt swap was done with a 90 style engine....
