Well, since i foudn i popped a HG tonight (oil in water and water in oil) i'm going through putting new ACL bearings inthe rods and mains as well as putting in h11 studs and some sort of HG

here's the thing, I don't have time to have the block surfaced or the head(the head was done recently anyway and was rebuilt completely)

Anyway.. I have a JOB now for thank god (untill their insurance finds i'm labeled disabled i'msure) but anyway i need to be there monday and wanna overnight from MAP or anyone who will do so

problem is i can't pick a head gasket. with the h1's i want to run up to 35-37psi TOPS and was hoping to maybe get away with a Fail-pro again or get the cometic since it has a coating on it and is only 88 bucks

do you giuys think i can get away with the cometic or should i go composite and limit the boost to something reasonable (suggestions welcome)

PLEASE I NEED HELP BY MORNING!!

(edit: i'm broke buthave some credit on a purchase i didn't get so i can spend at some stores through paypal) if i go local i will buy a friends un-used h11's and geta fail prob but that leaves no bearings

DO you guys think mainand rod bearings are vital when there's water been in the oil (i kinda do)

No they are not necessary to replace. There was a point when the head gasket was my only issue and I have about 6 hanging in the shop damaged. I never replaced my bearings. Finally got a head gasket that would hold the boost.

if your broke get the felpro and run it at a safe boostlevel to you get some extra cash.

FEL-PRO is what I would go with. You said it yourself, you don't have much to spend. If you are depending on this car as your only mode of transportation, I would keep the boost down.

Glenn.. with out getting the block and head milled, get a composite.

Bogus i was REALLY hoping you'd be on here, My machinist tried saying that most likely the block was cracked but after pulling the head the block and head are fine (within tolerance of my straight edge anyway) but the gasket is messed up weird in a few places..mind giving an opinion as to the cause?

edit: it was the number four (far left) that was wet inside and that was the end that splashed coolant..looks like it's been failing a little while but it's only a couple months old with the head resurface*shrugs*
I should also note when pulling the head, the stud at the oil feed port wasn't as tight as the rest, it was snug but not like what it took to get the others off

Glenn.... I bet your block is about like this one I milled the other day....

See the sharpie marks by the rear water ports?
The block was milled .003 at the time of this pic, and had to go another .003 to get it all cleared up.

After looking at the pics of your gasket, I would have to say, your block needs milled

^^ Hahaha that block looks familiar ROFL. I wanted to see a pic of the gasket to see if there were any holes burned in it, but Glenn's isnt messed up where that usually happens, so it must be the block or maybe the stud was "floating" on that side because there was a bit of junk in the bolt hole when it was put in originally and the stud wasnt able to bottom out fully in the hole

Edit: Looking at the second and third pics, it does look like the head may have lifted a bit. I cant tell in the pics, but was the gasket burned to the metal in those spots?

Dale, thanks a ton for all your help today (the words of confidence really kept me from unloading a few 30 round clips of 7.62 x 39 into it and calling it done LOL)

Funny how i'm always helping people and i can't get ONE person to come help me lift the head/intake onto the block (back can't take it, i'd give out and muck up the head - done it before)

but that's ok, all friends just became "customers' no free-bees again

I did decide to go with the cyclone, there's not enough difference in space to make anything not fit so i'mgonna use it :D now i just need a vacum can once i get the freaking head on

P.S. no,the gasket wasn't burned onto anything, just missing oddly enough.. and that lower left stud was a LOTlooser than the others for some reason, not sure what happened but i think this time instead of threading the studs in all the way by hand i'm gonna put at least a couple inch pounds on them to ensure they don't walk out. I also cleaned the holes out REALLY good

^^yea, Bogus and My Machinist both said the same thing..went composite :( if it blows again, into the river i drive it if it hasn't sold by then

the missouri river (if i can find a deep enough spot that is) LOL

Glenn sorry hear that man. I am too will be pulling my head in the future. I know how your feel with all this work but hang on.

I honestly think its your studs not tight enough around that area causing a blow out. If you said you already check the block with a straight edge and passes the test then its flat. I would use another fel-pro and make sure all studs are tight and specifically around that area.

And make sure the threads are okay in the block. Chase the threads and make sure they are okay.

Good luck and i would definitely come help you out if i was any closer man.

Hey river what is wrong with your head gasket?

Kel, its pushing coolant :(. I used MLS without surfacing the head and the block to a specific RAs; Now i am paying the price. you can start the car and soon as you pull that coolant cap of the coolant is shooting out like a lava. I am surprised the gasket hasn't let go yet. its not blown or anything its just pushing coolant. ofcourse, its also a freshly rebuild motor with forged internals so the motor is still fresh. i am also not running very much boost right now so it can't do much harm right now. the block and the head still maybe flat enough that the gasket hasn't blown. I'm gonna turn the boost up a little more and see what happens.

Just a little update: Everything is almostfinished (been taking my time) the few things i have left to do are

A.) Find a place to mount the coils

b.)double check the bolts on the turbo manifold and throttle body

c.) relocate the AFPR (Was in the way of the brake booster vac line, for now it's just dangling(

d,)aside from those i have to run the vacum lines for the BOV and MAP sensor

e.)Run the #3 PWM output to the solenoisd that will be operating the cyclone manigfold (and make vacumreseviour canister)

f.)install myt other lowered strut spring combo on the right side (did the left while doing the timing belt :D ) SHe's gone be low again, i'm happy about that :D

g.)

Aside from those the car is ready to roll again, I can't wait to see if there's really a 40-50 lb.ft gain fromthe cyclone as i seem to hear from what i've read on the net in variouse places (would be NICE)

I really wish i would have had the time to finish porting the cyclone before using it but even stock it only flows 2-3 cfm less than an unported 1g manifold but the numbers below the "peak" are rather impresive in my opinion and i'm guessing will notonly aid in spool but make city driving much nicer requiring less throttle input as well as hopefully improving milage (unsure on that one though)

and since my general thoughts on threads is they are "useless without pics" here ya go :D

EDIT: althought i used the hyper co springs and tokico's fromthe GST setup (and front GST suspension) i'm hoping the balance of putting the other side on (right now other side is stockheight so it may be pushing more weight onto this side) but as it sits'the car is something i don't want it to be called "hellaflush" :(

found this out the hard way :ohdamn:....
I also found this out the hard way. I havnt done a compression check on motor yet but its a fresh stock rebuilt 6 bolt with 2G pistons. I did not have the head or block surfaced. It looked clean. Well with about a 1/4 tank of gas run time on it, its got light white steam coming out the exhaust. I kept hoping it was my imagination and that it would go away the more the motor ran, but its not getting any better. So I will probably be pulling the head off and throwing in a Fel Pro head gasket. Seems like thats what you guys are recomending the most.

e.)Run the #3 PWM output to the solenoisd that will be operating the cyclone manigfold (and make vacumreseviour canister) :(

How exactly are you planing on activating your cyclone? I have one bolted up to my motor but have not decided how I want to activate it.
