New 3-pc crossmember - Thoughts?

Well, time for an update. :)

There's one thing that I never liked about removing the factory parallel bars. It's that it also removed some rigidy from the k-member itself. Those bars effectively tied the underside of the k-member together to keep it strong and help it resist deflection. So, I finally did something about it. With the help of Craig (calan), I developed a set of plates that bolt up to the underside of the k-member to give that support back to it. They work in conjunction with my 3-pc crossmember kit to make for an overall more solid package.

I just test fit the first set tonight and they fit great.

And to go along with it, I made a small change of how the parallel bars attach to the front bar.

That's cool info, and you are 100% correct about mounts from this car ending up on that car:D

I agree, I don't see how it wouldn't fit the same either.....

I'll look at my car in the garage, and take a shot, and then run back down to the shop and inspect the stud area where the crossmember mounts on the '92 cars down there.....see if I can notice a difference, hell I'll take my tape measure too....

Well, I won't be installing my crossmember for quite some time. #1 I don't have it yet, have to wait til after the holidays....and #2 my car probably won't have an engine back in it til around May-June. But, if noone has reported findings here by then, I definitely will.

Can't wait to tell him he has an AUTO bracket on his M/T car:thumb:

I know this is an older post but is there a mount difference for a galant vr4?

Any idea on the new price for the updated 3 piece design with the included plates? Could this design be incorporated to have tabs welded on to hold the radiator and then eliminate the brace for the rad support and add a brace accross the front if the core support was removed at one point?

Basically what I'm getting at is that I'd love to put a tube front end on my car just after the motor mounts but ultimately theres no way to offer a bolt on option for this or an easily shipped weld in option. So I'm just looking at a way to compromise, shave a little weight off the nose and still keep it structually strong.

Bless you, Paul.

I'm not entirely sure yet. I'll figure it out tomorrow morning and post an ad, so keep an eye on the freelancer section tomorrow.

Most definitely. But that's something I would leave up to the end user. You'd have to cut the lower radiator support out and cap off the ends. And the mounts for the radiator would depend on which radiator was being used. I had planned to do exactly this on my od 1G. I had the lower suppor removed, but I never got around to welding brackets onto the crossmember bar before I got rid of the car. It's definitely something you would want to set up on the car though. And it is an excellent way to simplify the front end.

Do you think for the people who ordered the one piece design will benefit from these new pieces bolted onto the k-member seperatly? If so will you be selling these seperate from the front bar?

Most definitely and yes I will.

Everything on the K member should be the same on the GVR4, the part under the rad supports I have no idea.
The k-members are the same, so the plates should fit no problem. And I know the front bar fits. The only thing I don't know is if the lengths of the parallel bars are the same or not.

I've used both 90 AWD MT dsm front to rear bars and GVR4 front to rear bars so I would assume they are also the same.

However don't take my word for it, I can measure again when I get those thread pitches for you.

Are the brackets currently SS? Reason I asked is it was my understanding that aluminum is normally less expensive than SS. I suppose it also depends on what grade/type of each your using though.

My main concern is longevity. So which ever material the fabricator thinks is best is my preference. Weight at this point I think is starting to get nit picky. (Just my thought)
