I'm going to be replacing mine shortly...just wondering if I should stick with the K&N or is something like the HKS really worth the money?

+1 Get a K&N with a recharge kit. That should last you a few years.

I stood and stared at the engine for a few minutes wondering what was going on. Then I noticed the K&N was rather beat up, dirty and looked small. I figured "What the hell, something is holding it back." I went and got our filter and was going just swap it in place but it wouldn't fit. Our filter was substantially larger than the K&N and wouldn't fit because of the ACD. I pulled the MAF pipe off and replaced it with our single bend MAF and then put our filter on.

The restriction wasn't the K&N filter, it was the stock intake pipe, stock MAF, and a dirty old filter. K&N is easily in the top 3 for high flow filters so long as you get the right size and keep it clean.

I don't know if HKS has changed over the years but HKS in a Japanese magazine's test rated worst not only for airflow but also for actual filtering capability. They sure look the same as they did back then but I never look closely at them so they may have improved without me knowing. The Apex-i Power intake filters rated the best in the test I think.

While I typed HKS filter...I actually meant A'PEXi...I don't know why the hell I typed HKS.

Anyway, after reading that article and looking at a few things, I'm starting to debate a green filter. Anyone have experience with those?

I am running the apexi power intake. I was going to get a k&n but Did a quick search of air filter test and found out k&n Did stand up as well as I thought. I thought they were number one but found out different. My opinion go with any of these three. I'm going to put them in order from best to worst and try to link to site where found info.
Apexi power intake best
K&n filter charger 2nd
Blitz sus 3rd
And hks should not even be on the list but they tested to so ill put it but they were 4th with the hks mega filter.

This is where I got those standings.

Think I'll try and spring for the A'PEXi. I'm over 100K, she needs all the help she can get, as I won't have money for a rebuild for a LONG time.

Save yourself the time and focus on other things with your car and just grab a K&N. K&N Filters are tried and true here at tuners, so you can't go wrong.

ive tried.. k&n.. Spectre.. and AEM dry flow
i felt no gains or anything. except the spectre made a "louder sucking" noise when on the gas.
so id say Spectre =D

I need to find the link to the thread where that fancy cap got sucked into a brand new snail...

Just stay away from foam and Spectre. Neither belong in front of a turbo.

I've had good results with K&N and don't feel a need to change. I would think that a OEM filter would be a better choice then Spectre or other cheap filters.
