Im curious of something. Do they make and aftermarket higher amp alternator for the 420a? Between my sound system, gauges overlays, plus the future addition of at least three, maybe five aftermarket gauges, halo headlights, and possibly some accent lighting, the more I ponder all this the greater my concern of overdrawing the stock alternator. maybe itsa stupid concern, but still one nonetheless. Also, if not an aftermarket higher amp, can you have the stock one rewound to be higher? Thanks to any and all who respond.

awesome. thanks for the advice and tips guys. i never thought about a dedicated battery for the tunes, have to explore that idea as well. would probably be cheaper and possibly even a better venture. thanks again guys

Just to put this out there, to run multiple batteries in your car and have one ONLY running the sound system you need a battery isolater. You can run the batteries without one but you are only increasing your reserve time on the battery. With the isolater you are shutting that battery off from the rest of your car and only the sound system is pulling power from it.

Maybe one of those gel type batteries for your sound system might take the stress off the main battery. Not a capacitor , an actual battery. Look into them.

This isnt what i would suggest. think about it like this. if your alternator is having problems putting the power you need to all your equipment right now. whats it going to do when u add something else into the equation that has to be charged? getting a bigger alternator is the best choice. PS. ive worked in the aftermarket car audio field for about 11 years and run across this problem allthe time.

All depends on how you hook it all up. The isolator is needed while still hooking it all up.

Experience, having to replace alternators in my brothers i-roc in months due to his 3 1000w subs.

But yea I'd look into and see if they make a better alternator first. All depends on where your goals are at.

Yes you can have our alt Re wound. I have found it cheaper to do that. You just have to look around to find someone to do it for a decent price. As for the batteries I run two kinetic 1800s in my 07 f-150 pushing my two t5 soundstreams without an iso but it does need to be both same batteries. If you don't than you can suffer from a dumb battery war where one will fight the other end result one battery dies unless you match the two up closely.

dont mean to thread jack... but does anyone know where to find a new alternator pig tail? my wastegate melted mine and ill prob need to resolder some wires with a new plug LOL (didnt wanna start a new thread) oh btw this is a 4g63 alternator

Your best bet would to find somebody selling pigtails or shoot a pm to Mitsu graveyard or Miller imports.

The original poster, if you read that. Lol.

ah i guess i did miss that little spec. i dont think 5 is alot.. i think it might be more then most would want... but i can think of 5 gauges that would be good to have for myself i just dont have the last two in the list below LOL
Wideband
Boost
Oil Pressure
EGT
Methinol/water injection

The gauges I'm pondering are boost, (when I Turbo), oil pressure, temp, amplifier temp, and voltage. I also thought about an oil temp gauge, figure the more you know about exactly what the engine is doing the better. Planning on three on the pillar, two on the gauge bezel, and maybe a custom build for one in my wheel. Don't know exactly yet about that one.
