I have a Bomex kit and I'm thinking about going back to stock. I want to be able to drive my car on the street and road course without worrying about destroying the bodywork....and, I think I just grew out of it. When it gets driven on the street, I'd rather stay as anonymous as possible. Well, as anonymous as you can be with a cat-less 3" turbo back :D

Your car, do what you want, but IMHO, the stock lines of the car are timeless.

Your car needs to be fast way before you start making it look fast. Otherwise I'm going to pull up to you on the street and let you inhale my O2 dump :) Just playing, but I really do that to ricers around here. Be fast before you look fast, why?

A. The cops will only hassle you more.

B. If you do get a bodykit, at least you have the performance to back it up. I can respect a "nice" body kit if the car behind it is actually fast.

Plus my bumper scrapes as it is so I can't even imagine lowering or putting some other bumper on it. You'll look way better going fast in a normal looking car than going slow in a car that's supposed to look fast.

Very True man I laugh at the guys round here with there "bad ass" cars than u notice that the exhaust is nothing more than stock with a hole in it an a body kit trying to hide it as well as saying they have done a bunch to the car like a cold air intake yet all it is is a short RAM not even a cold air but that is a bunch of work done to the car Lmao.
I promise when I move to getting any looks done to it I will be sitting at least four hundred horses or better I really want six but I got a 420a with limited funds

I sort of feel that ricer isn't so much of a look, as much as it is an attitude.

I think that kids running around in a beater neon trying to race everyone is more of a ricer than a kid with a 1.8l eclipse with a body kit and lime green paint that just cruises it around.

Nice post bastarddsm that is a good point didn't think of that

That's actually true. I hate kids like that, or people like that. When I had my mustang everybody would try to race me, EVERYBODY. One day I was on lunch cruising on the highway and this old neon with blue racing stripes, fart can and rt badges everywhere tried to race me. It was full of kids maybe all 16 years old. They were all lookin at me and laughing. So I dropped it down to 3rd gear did 3 honks and took off. I won obviously but I hate people like that. I just race them to shut them up. My talon isn't as fast because it's stock but I still race just because I enjoy it

I think this is half true. Like this weekend I saw a clean all stock 05ish civic race a Chevy Malibu at a stop light. They are ricers. But if I see a kitted up, fart-canned, big spoilered neon drive buy normally. That would also fall under the ricer category.

This topic always bugs me and asking most of the guys on this site is just a waste of time. The will tell you that body kits are rice and almost everyone on this site says they hated F&F which is a complete lie, they just all wanna jump on the band-wagon. As for body kits, they all hate them unless it's a senior member of this site which is complete 2-faced-ness.

I've always liked body kits so I would do what you want and forget about the idiots that will tell you they suck and they roll around with their pop bottle catch cans...

It seems that the general consensus is that "it's your car, do what you want" don't expect everyone (or anyone) to appreciate the work you put into your own car. Be prepared to take the insults with the compliments. at the end of the day you're the one that drives the car. So how do you want to be seen?

My PERSONAL opinion is that body kits are over-rated (and ugly). If you do put a body kit on, please paint it. And be prepared to get challenged by every high-school kid driving his mom's civic.

And Phunny, I don't think anyone said they hated the MOVIE, they just didn't like all the ricey-ness in it. I mean, for crying out loud, it wasn't even a GS-T and all of the cars had neon under-glow. And in the opening scene, he up-shifted like 7 or 8 times. I don't think anyone (well maybe someone) hated the story-line of the movie. The point of everyone's complaints is that they did no research before making that movie. They just picked flash looking cars, and put body kits on them, slapped some underglow, a nitrous purge somewhere around the hood, add a little neon and BAM! a "fast car"

rAce!!!! not rIce!! people!!!!! LOL sorry just had to say it 'cause it was driving me nuts already... RACER look.
Rice= grains ( food)
ok so I got that out of my chest. Anyway, Do what you like on your car but don't get sloppy. I had a 420a with body kit and people always wanted to race me. I sold it and got a 6 bolt to drop it in a GST. But this baby I'm keeping it stock look....at least for now but then again I'm kinda phasing out of the Racer look... my $.02 Everyone has a diff. taste.

You haven't been around long enough to make that statement. There were many, many debates on the subject and the vast majority say they hated the movie even though we all know they more than likely own it.

It is impolite of you to make a statement about me. You are making an assumption. Saying that "you haven't been around long enough" implies that you know me, or at least know something about me. When in actuality, you have no idea how long I've been around, or how much I know or don't know.

But I digress, you missed my point. My point is that F&F gave every little high-school kid the idea that all they needed to make their car fast was a body kit and a big wing. Then this whole generation of "fast-looking" slow cars appeared and started running around the streets. It is now widely known that body kits and wings have no performance benefits. And it is also widely assumed that those that use them do not truly understand performance tuning.

However, there are those out there that do like the looks of body kits, and do understand performance tuning. But again, I didn't appreciate you calling out everyone who offered their advice. But that's what the OP asked for, opinions.

Ok, rant done. Sorry if I offended anyone.

F&F was Relevant in 2000, it didn't make me want to run out an buy a DSM, I bought mine new. Bodykits were the "in" thing, so were huge wings, and underbody neon.

Is it relevant now? Not really, but then again.....

However, Those that have been in the Import scene have seen these trends come and go. much Like Bellbottom jeans.

If ya wanna call me out, be my guest, For those that know, I Still have my AIRA membership card, and been to more than my fair share of Battles at LACR, and late nights running an 89 CRX under the Bridges at Roxford in 1993.

My GSX was "old school" Modded, back when the safc was a preferred tuning device, and 20g's were still the in thing. Hell Half of my stuff isn't even made anymore, my hood hasn't been produced since 2k, same with my exhaust.

Want to know why I waited to Kit til now? Cause I love this money pit, and got bored of it's looks, and before people say why not 2gb? why would I want to make my car look like your car?

did you ever fix whatever was making your car bounce around?

In my opinion. If it has an outrageous body kit and a nig aftermarket F&F spoiler with little to no performance modifications on the car it is compeletly RICE.

I personally like the sleeper look. Why? Because I like the surprised look on camaro, corvette, and mustang drivers faces when I start to pull on them. The only thing on the exterior my car that isn't stock is a sticker on the drivers side quarter window that says "Got Boost?", and my new set of Evo 8 rims. The only other thing I will do is lower the car.

Thats it. I consider body kits rice. Unless they have a little bit of taste to them.

Paul Volks car(the red one) Looks good. But it has the stock 2GB bumber with an aftermarket lip and a stock 2GB rear bumper(I think ? :aha:)

It is tasteful.

To me, RICE is any unnecessary mods which have no function and are only installed to increase the "cool" factor. Like venting to atmoshpere, people will think the car is cool and fast just because is makes a louder noise. It's simply an appeal to ignorance.

As for "following the crowd", can you HONESTLY tell me this....

seriously though, back in 96-97 when I was looking for a shop to work on my car I went to a place in costa mesa ca. and the guy talked about a "killer" new body kit we could put on the car.
I knew I was in the wrong place. Luckily I found Roadrace after that and Mike worked on my car.(the old little shop) The most anti rice shop you can find. Pure function.

I have seen one or two kits that I have liked but they were so subtle it was hard to tell they were not factory.

but it is your car, so what ever floats your boat.

I don't think putting a subtle tow hook on out cars would be considered rice, as we don't have any stock, and we all know how often DSM's break down.

What's this we stuff coming from a non-DSM owner? If you have a tow hook sticking out of your bumper and don't race where it would be needed, then you are no different then all the Other ricers with them. Otherwise fix your car right and it will be reliable and you won't need the "race car look" tow hook.
