ok so i just replaced my timing belt and put the lower timing cover on and alternator belt to start it up and it started right up, after twon mins or so it started to smoke from under the lower timing cover!! :ohdamn: what could :ohdamn:t this be caused by? any ideas?

nop no groves on the teeth the t belt looks fine to.
do you guys think its the balance shaft. i rotated the crank 6 times 3 times and the marks lined up all three times. perfectly not close enough.

A lot of things smoke for a while after you screw around with them. I usually take it as a compliment. Just take the car to IHOP for pancakes and then drop it off on the way home.

ps. remember what day it is....

If you are trying to ruin what I thought was a halfway decent April 1st post, then you have succeeded.

It was a joke. I know jack about engines. In fact, that's an overstatement, as I have no clue how or where to jack up an engine.

I'm not an expert so this is just my two cents. How much smoke is it? It could just be you are slightly rubbing cover on belt or belt is rubbing something. May not cause a lot of damage but enough to cause a light smoke an burnt smell. Or maybe something is in a bind causing it to rub one of the rotating parts? Like I said just a thought.

Now that April First is winding down, apologies to the thread-starter for my contributions to his or her thread.

I caught it ROFL But, I know its a pain, but you may try taking the cover off and running it without the cover. Better safe than sorry.
