What's goin on guys? Thanks for the help from everyone that has posted for my parts request and headlamp suggestions.
I'm bringing back my 1G GSX from the dead. It's been sitting dormant for a few years...but my daily driver was totaled 2 months ago, so I'm finally breathing life back into the beast!
It was a rough start, the engine wasn't running worth a poop, replaced the coil pack because we weren't getting steady spark from the plugs...still didn't run right. Ended up being those damn Bosch spark plugs, swapped them out and it ran like a sewing machine. It comes back from the body shop on Saturday with everything but the roof sanded down and repainted. All the dings removed, factory spoiler back on (Thanks KTGurl!!).
It will pretty much be bone stock, except for the Talon rims in place of the Mitsu, and I had my guy paint the wing black as opposed to the factory R11. I just think it looks better that way.
Next we will be tackling the AC compressor as the clutch assembly on it is bad. The pulley is moving back and forth about a 1/4", figure just replace the whole thing since it's the original anyway.
After that, it will either be a new exhaust or tackling the loss of compression in 2 or 3 of the cylinders. We already know it's not the rings. A leak down test in definitely in the future. Hopefully it's nothing major, as I'm on a very, VERY tight budget. I'm in and out of work due to the back injury from the accident, and have no idea when I'll get any type of settlement, or how much it will be. Not only that, I don't have the ability or experience to resolve any major problems, or the money to pay someone. I'm lucky enough to have help from my grandfather and access to his garage with a pit and library of tools, but he's old school. Give him a 350 small block and he'll tear it down and rebuild...throw a turbo in the mix and computers in the mix, he starts to lag behind.
Sorry to give my life story, I'm just excited to have my baby back...or "daddy's race car" as my son called it the first time he saw it. I'll be sure to post some pics when I get it back this weekend if anyone would care to see!
