Looking to change out my stock exhaust soon on my 92 talon tsi awd. I want to do a full turbo-back or whatever you would call it with the downpipe and catback. Sorry I'm still new to dsm's.. But I want to do a 3 inch because I will be doing a some mods in the future. Just want to do the exhaust for now because I hate driving quiet cars.

So what are some good exhausts? I want it catless and 3 inch. But here's the catch... I don't want it to sound too "ricer". I'm a mustang guy and for me to even own a 4 cyl and let alone consider putting an exhaust on one is a big deal LOL. I do love my talon though. It's a blast to drive. But what are some exhausts that aren't too Honda-sounding? I really want it to have a nice deep throaty sound at idle and not be super high pitched at wot. I listened to some YouTube videos but it's hard to tell what I like from a video online. So far I think I like the thermal r&d? And straight pipe just sounds badass.

Ricer is a honda that sounds like a pissed off bee.Check our supporting vendors for a o2 housing, downpipe, and catback.Go with a nice oval muffler, to defen sound and bam, good to go.

Yeah exactly that's what I don't want it to sound like LOL. Will do man, thanks. Any recommendations on specific brands of mufflers?

If I had a dollar for every N1 suggestion this thread will get...

Haha while I'm not doubting you.. it's (IMO) the best sounding exhaust on a DSM. And I'm not knocking you, an exhaust is an exhaust, a pipe is a pipe.. I did however run the N1 on my old Eclipse and I loved it.. by far my favorite mod I did to it. So I throw my vote to the N1 :)

Don't get me wrong, the N1 is a nice sounding muffler. But for the high price versus the vast selection of exhaust systems out there, you'll never catch me with one. :p Like you said, a pipe is a pipe.

I REALLY like the Thermal R&D cat back! Exactly the sound I want. Yeah I was gonna just use ebay for the piping like you said. Thanks for the help. Now I gotta get some cash flow! Lol

3" inch down pipe from ebay and get the dynomax bullet race muffler (they're about $40) then have a local shop custom weld the 3" pipe from your DP to your muffler.

I had the Dvnomax bullet race muffler with full 3" on my turbo Lebaron and it sounded mean! Nice deep throaty sound at idle and wicked sound under boost. Most people would tell me that it sounded like a jet when I would take it to the track and really get on the boost.

The setup I'm going for on my 92 Talon Tsi will be an ebay 3" down pipe with no cat and a 3" y-cut-off that will be mounted about 2-3 feet before the stock muffler, in case I want to roll in stealth mode I can just cap the cutoff and roll on stock exhaust.

Hope this helps

Thermals are freaking great, and greatly expensive as well. But thermals are also 2.5 or 2.25 inch in where it is supposed to bolt to the cat. They taylor more to the everyday person, rather than the ones that want the 3 inch all the way back for performance wise.

If you go thermal catback.Cut off a couple inches from where it bolts up, replace with 3 inch stainless and 3 inch flange.Bolt it up to the ebay 3 inch downpipe.

Honestly I love dynomax bullets. I had them on my old mustang. But I'm really not looking to have anything welded. I want a nice fitting bolt on exhaust. And I really like the thermal. I would like to hear the dynomax first but I would imagine it would sound good man. Do you have a video of it on your car?

Damn... That sucks. I really didn't want to hack into the exhaust at all. But I really like the sound of the thermal so I might do that. I just think it sounds perfect honestly. Nice and deep sounding. Hopefully soon I can get all this pieces together. I hate the stock exhaust so much

I actually looked on the thermal website and they have a 3" catback so I wont need to hack it up.

Edit: nevermind

Sorry, I sure don't have any current video of the car.

I sold the car a while back. But I'll check with my buddies to see if they have videos from when we would go to the track.

Awesome thanks man. I'm really curious to see what it sounds like. Although I'm most likely going with a thermal catback.

Could I just unbolt and remove the stock muffler for now until I get the money for the thermal?

Yes, but it wont sound good at all and you will probably get a ticket for unsafe exhaust.

Hmm alright. I'm gonna try it and see how it sounds just to see Because im curious. I'll probably put it back on though

I got a thermal catback sitting here in my living room.If you look at the website, you can see where is bolts up to cat, and is stepped down to bolt up to the stock cat.:(

The guy I bought my block from had an ebay 3", but he cut the ebay muffler off and replaced it with a flowmaster. It sounds amazing! Very deep thoaty idle; nothing like you find on your local 15 year olds civic. It was by far the best sound I have heard on a 4 banger yet.

Just my two cents...

Hmmm... I've got a full 3 inch turbo back with a cat-delete as well, but I put in a magnaflow 4X9" and it gives a totally different sound (i think more "muscly"). It add's quite a throaty sound but I don't think it is quite as loud as either of WES's exhausts. I like it because it is easy to drive a few hours and keep your sanity (it doesn't tire you out on long trips.
I'll take a video tonight and post it so you can see if you like it.
