What is the status of the 1G/2G Talon/Laser/Eclipse as a vintage or collector car in the automotive world?

Has the overall image of the car received more notice among enthusiasts in the past 5 years?

Give your positive thoughts on this, Thanks!

Well, I was driving a 1g AWD hoodless around town with a venting noisy BOV. Needless to say I got the thumbs up from a lot of older guys.

It wasn't even my car ROFL

Give it another 10-15 years and we will start to see cars made in the 1990s being sought after by collectors. It's just starting with cars made in the 80s. In my neck of the woods, the early 80s Camaros, Mustangs, Vettes etc are getting more and more expensive.

However, most people have modded the $hit out of their DSMs, which takes away most of the collectors value. If you had a GVR4 that was bone stock, you may have something that would be worth some decent $$ in about 15 years. That's the sole reason I bought a GVR4.

Here in Colorado you can get "Collectors Car" license plate if you have a 1990 TEL. Only a few more years and my 2g MIGHT also be eligible for Collectors plates. But pretty cool that the state of Colorado recognizes the 1ga's as classic cars. :D

As for the image of these cars now days? In my very honest opinion, they are starting to become the next Honda. Broke ass kids who know squat about cars hear they are fast, buy one, throw cheap mods at it, and race it till it blows up. Then promptly drop it off at the junkyard and pick up another one to destroy. Around here nobody takes them seriously. Not even the Honduh guys.

Just driving around in my girlfriend's 97 Talon, we get tons of looks from all kinds of people. And her's isnt in nearly as good of shape as mine is. They sure do look good going down the road though.

Mine may be worth a few bucks a few years down the road if I keep the miles off of it. I'm pretty sure I have one of the top 10 lowest mileage 97 Talons in the country.

I agree. Modded cars aren't collecible or as valuable as stock.
I have a 68 Chevelle SS and a 70 AAR 'Cuda. Those are the cars that go up in value. :hellyeah:

Having my 2 DSMs parked in my shop, i get alot of older guys who had these cars brand new in the early 90s, and share their thoughts on them.

Just last month someone was in my shop who worked for Eagle back in 88/89, and was in charge of the Eagle Talon that went to the Auto Shows and such...gave stories of driving them around before they were available to the public.

Anytime I call a dealership about a part for my Talon they always have some story about how they were good looking cars or how they were fast as hell.

Ok I may have used the term "Classic" incorrectly but would this car be considered a " late model Cult Classic. Not that these cars are collectible, but something owners just enjoy the hell out of & want to keep them running???

Sad to say, even the filipadi (sp?) Talon wont be worth much, maybe in the worlds most molested cars museum when we are all dead and we fly our iphone 25's around LOL.

Get off your flying cell phone scooters and think!

I think awd dsm will be classics. Especially 2gb talons. To this day, nothing captures the sexy and agressive look of a dsm. Plus there have been very few options for awd turbo powered 2 door coupes.

Even that talon I think is a crock. Its just some random rich well known guy who added a spoiler different seats and a different steering wheel to it and gave it his certificate of athencitity (sp). I could do the same to mine but in all seriousness who gives a shit about some nobody from the country parts of Michigan. In a couple of years that talon will be nothing anymore. Just my 2 cents.

Now is classic car wise? Im sure they will come around and be kinda collectable but wont rake in the cash by any means. They now are just getting harder and harder to come by with what WES said... pee on kids drive them till they blow up and than on to the next one.

Once I get my 4 year degree, and hopefully making over 40-60k+ a year I plan on buying TONS AND TONS of 1G's...... Just stockpile them.

I have sold around 5 DSM's in the past year.... I swear I have bought 2 of those 5 back.
In less then 6 months GOSH DANG kids.... Mind you im 22.......

They ruin them, dont take care of them. Then blame me.... WTF MAN the 20 year old car you sold me leaks oil.... its your fault I am a idiot and never checked the oil and spun a rod bearing like a fool.

FOR ex.

I bought a 1992 Eagle Talon 7 Bolt NT. Drove it for 2 months... had alot of minor issues.
Rebuilt the engine, sold the engine off.

Dropped in a LOW milage rebuilt NA engine and trans.

Drove it for 2 months got all the bugs worked out, new TB new ECU....

Sold it for $1650 to a friend....

In less then 6 months.

The following, Dents all over it, cracked front windshield, swapped rims and tires with crap, ripped out the radio, bent the wiper arms, spun a bearing in the engine, bunch of other crap....

Just bought it back for $250. Good Lord.

I think in the year 2040 or so ill be watching speed or velocity and instead of building old 50's and 60's cars they will be building up DSM's, 240's, Supra's and the rest of the great 90's cars.

That's not true. In Colorado, the only vehicles that qualify for collectors car plates are ones that were manufactured prior to 1975.

"5 Year Collector Passenger

About:
Motor vehicles that are model year 1975 or earlier or motor vehicles with a model year 1976 or later that were registered as a collector's item prior to September 1, 2009 which are not to be used in a commercial manner."
