All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

Check primary coil and secondary using voltage drop with a DMM, if it is at specs than it is internal like CKP. I Would do the wiggle test on all your connections and wires as well. Also if the coil is not to specs and you replace it and still dont start i would even go farther to say is that PCM is problem. But i think its ether something very simple or CKP.

This car is driving me crazy! So once again this car lets me down, I got a po420 so a few days ago my car turns off randomly so i pull over and then it wouldn't start just kept cranking finally get it to start and it dies on me over 9 times on the way home. Thinking its the cat I replace it with complete headers and test pipe but still no start. I replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, coil, and still nothing just cranks i could hear the pump still what the @$$& if anyone has any idea what it could be please let me know. I need to go to school and work!

PO420 is catalyst efficiency below threshold. I know that code by heart.

You mention changing all those things, did you double check to make sure your flex section is not collapsed? I've seen that a lot on these forums.

Take off the harmonic balancer and line up the mark on the crank with the mark on the front case and the marks on the cam gears with the dowels on the gears pointing up; the harmonic balancer is actually two pieces and comes apart sometimes and makes it look as though the timing is off. Also, doing a compression test on a cold motor will give low readings. If you take off the harmonic balancer and a couple of the timing cover bolts, you should be able to move the timing cover enough to see this:

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I did this though and the marks on the cam gears were far off.

Man that really blows. You put so much effort into figuring it out and now something that big. Sorry about your luck and wished things turned out better.

It's all good. Took a chance buying the car so cheap.
Got it really close and it tried to fire, so I figured the timing was off and guess what..it was. LOL

Dare I ask... It does have fuel right?

:D LOL unless the fuel guage just went out then yep it has a 1/4 tank in her.

also while im thinking about it, the ecu does it have to be bolted back into place to work properly? i mean do the bolts act as a ground or anything to that sort.

Look up no start in the search bar. theres your possibilities and answer for this already answered 4 million times post.

2g Jeremy, I honestly have checked all of them!

That is how I know I wouldn't get fuel if my Crank sensor was bad. Also that how I know my ASD relay is good. In addition I found out it nothing to do with the security system I un did and rewired because there is only 1 wire (black with red stripe) that feeds the whole 12+ system.

007Jimmy, if the cam sensor was bad I would have fuel but no spark to the coil?

Thanks.

Edit: can't these cars start start with a bad cam sensor? If so that is not the problem here.

I noticed that the car acts up when it warms up, I checked it when I got home and found a p0118. I replaced the sensor and fired it up and it died again this car is driving me crazy! I'm all out of ideas and for some reason not getting spark I replaced the coil and check the plugs and wires! Do you guys have anymore suggestions? Feed back is much appreciated thanks guys for your support.

LOL

LOL:banghead: no. This is why almost four different member have asked you to check it. Your cas controls your fire rate. If its completly shot I really don't think you get spark. I believe.

well if you searched everything, check the cam sensor if that's alright I would move to your ECU

Funny you mention that. I just bought this car 2 weeks ago and I HAD it running (thought the speedo never worked). So I should unplug the speed sensor and then try and start the car?

side note, what do I need to do to fix the speedo? just buy a new sensor and clean the connector? I know I read something about an input and output sensor.
