I suppose it's time I document the ongoing 8yr build of my 91 n/t auto. It's arguably the first AWD swap 1g. And it runs pretty hard. Current best is a 11.74@122, and I'm looking for 10's in the spring.
I bought it in January of 2003 off a car lot in Detroit, for $400. It had a broken timing belt, and a thrown rod. I immediately found a turbo laser in the junkyard, and robbed it of a turbo and 5 speed swap. I also used the original n/t bock head and what I could salvage out of a rusty turbo motor to piece together a short block. It was skanky as hell but at least I had a running turbo DSM.
Heres the old bi*** about 6mo and a turbo swap after I picked it up, this was my first week at college.
Summer of 05, I had a problem.
Over the next summer I fixed it and repainted it. Pretty?
Also got it to the drag strip for my first ever pass. 11psi, and a 15.90@92mph.
Then in the winter of 07/08 I graduate college, and get a job at CAT making some $$$...Time to make it fast. After countless hours of debating between a RWD swap, AWD swap, or just buing a Quaife... I opt for a AWD swap, and buy this shitbox for $1000.
I get started on the AWD swap.
Building new rear suspension mounts.
Notice the plates on the end to tie the tube into more of the frame rail.
Tacking the mounts in so I can get the rear squared up.
Rear mounts. Nice Ehh?
The rears tacked in!
Ready to test drive, and take to check allignments!
Sand blasted and painted front suspension!
