Hello DSMers,

I was wondering what all is needed to use a GSX trans in a GST. I'm not trying to do an AWD swap, I would just like to use the trans, having equal length axles and a shorter gear ratio. I have a GST trans that has billit shift rails and shift forks, along with a quaife diff. Will I be able to reuse these parts in the AWD trans?

Thanks in advance for all your help...

Yo could, but you will need a viscous coupler eliminator or a welded center diff. You can run the half shaft mod with a fwd transmission, i don't know why you would want to throw an awd transmission in there.

Cause the awd trans has better gearing and doing the half shaft mod would eliminate torque steer

You can do a half shaft mod on the fwd transmission. You just have to have the right differential in the transmission so that the splines in the half shaft will fit right. IF you want lower gearing you can also go with the gearset from the spyder or galant transmission.

I'd like to use the awd trans cause everyone says its stronger in stock form, I just need to know exactly what is needed.

You are going to need a welded center diff or viscous coupler eliminator to run it in a fwd, i would recommend the welded diff. You will also need the awd starter plate and flywheel.

So by having the same size axels they are also going to be smaller then my 99 front axels? Hmmm so id need some sort of aftermarket axels to beef it back up.

What's the most common way of sealing up the hole left fromthe shaft that drives the T-casse? I've often wondered this since Jon at TRE told me about the AWD trans option a few years back when i got my TRE stage 2 trans built. He also said that the AWD was stronger as well as having more options that were all stronger aswell when it came to mitsu oem gears he could shot peen and clean up to install in the trans.

AS for the gear ratios after having the FWD car for years and converting i can attest thatthe ratios are better, at least the jumpon the 2-3shift isn't anywhere near as bad as it is on a FWD

One more thing to think about is that you will not be able to use the qualife diff if you want to run the equal length axle setup. You will have to find one for the awd diameter axle splines. For what you are going to be spending doing this you could easily just convert the car to awd and not have to worry anything else.
