Alright guys, well I just finished my 14B install in my 95 GSX. All is well besides some minor oil leaks on the return line and the SS feed line at the filter housing. There was also a VERY minor coolant leak from the front banjo bolt on the turbo. I tightened it a tad and I think i went away. Now the turbo is spooling really late because I think there may be a leak before the turbo.
Now on to the problems.

1. The turbo does not smoke at all besides at WOT sometimes it blows out whiteish grey smoke. I'm trying to think of where it could be burning coolant. It never did this before the turbo install.

2. There was some white smoke the past 2 days at the manifold. I'm thinking its the shitload of PB Blaster that I sprayed all over the car but I'm not sure.

3. There's a smell coming from my engine that I can smell if I pop my hood and it becomes more noticeable when I'm driving and really get on it. It smells like burning plastic sort of, with a mix of burning rubber. The lower heat shield is not on the car because it's a pain to get on and I haven't put it back on because I haven't had time. Nothing is touching anything hot so I 'm confused...The only possible thing is maybe I pout on a new 4 ply exhaust mani. gasket as well as antiseize on most of the bolts and the turbo-mani. bolts.

Any help? Thanks.

there is like black condensation in the exhaust do you think that has something to do with it? I really dont know where to start to see whats going on

Its probably nothing, its cold out. You would notice a difference between "cold white smoke" and "something is wrong white smoke."

its been a little warmer like in the 40's and we started it and when its idling its seems fine but when i rev it up to like 4 grand and let off the smoke gets a little thicker than i think it should but i might just be worrying too much

Worst case it could be valve seals. Try a leak down test and go from there. As stated there's probably nothing major to worry about.

valve seals is a harder job than a head gasket right? and i have never done either of the two so if it is this will be a great learning experience. and btw it doesnt have tune either just stock ecu

just an update i put 20w-50 in her and problem solved oil pressure is great and no smoking anymore at idle and there was some minimal shaft play but it is passing oil through the seals so time for a turbo upgrade no more 14b for me

The thicker oil will help but your valve seals are still bad. Get them checked as soon as you can.

Regards
Greg

Yep sounded like a turbo to me. Unfortunately mine is so bad at the moment that sometimes the ppl behind me are like WTF LOL. Upgrade to evo 8/9 turbo revshift header and fmic with 560cc injectors :D LOL jk

thanks guys for the input gettin valves check tommorow plus gettin my new ams manifold punishment racing atmospheric dump 02 senosr housing and a new 3 ceramic coated down pipe plus doing head gasket test

results no head gasket leak just a cracked overfill bottle new manifold o2 dump and 3 inch down pipe on turbo and valves are fine everything is good as of right now dsm link and 750s here i come

When i'm driving my GSX when i pull off when in first's gear i see white smoke ? but when shift through the other gear's i dont see anything ? and when the car is at idle i see a thin layer of white smoke ??? HELP

blown head gasket smokes white.
check oil to see if there is any antifreeze in it and your coolant for oil.
also try compression test.

when you did the 6 bolt swap did you use a MLS head gasket and ARP studs?

Is there anything else to cause white smoke? I saw a leak but pretty sure its valve cover gasket and cam position sensor seal. I also stall out sometimes..

I just found out the car had no oil or coolant in it... White smoke, stalls sometimes..

How many accounts do you have? Like, who are you.. is this you?

Get a block test done. Accurate way to see if head gasket is blown. Cheap easy way to tell for sure if the head gasket is bad or not.

If you have no oil or coolant the smoke from the exhaust is the least of your worries.

I was thinking he meant no coolant no oil, as in no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant. Surely he didnt mean he was actually driving with no coolant and especially no oil?

change your oil easy way to see if your head gasket is blown. water in oil = blown gasket. could be your turbo as well as your oil filter housing which has water and oil running through it. also could he be running super rich?

also if your gasket was blown you would over heat within minutes. hope this help s

You're actually wrong. While water in oil does mean the headgasket is bad they hardly ever mix. Ive know people who have rode around with blown head gaskets for over a year with no overheating issues. I've dealt with a decent amount of blown HGs actually and none of the cars over heated.

No no we are separate people. I have little 420A LOL and found out it was just low on coolant. The hoses were bulging and the coolant was extremely hot. Just doing every single gasket and checking head and block for cracks.

I bought the car 5 miles from my house. When I got home and started checking over everything... No oil. Didn't register on dipstick. Also there was coolant in the oil that I put in and ran for 10min maybe.

Good to know. Hoping for no cracks or a warped head. On BMW a blown HG usually means the needle will go up before you can stop it and then the motor is gone.

Sounds like a leaky head gasket. My first DSM had the same symptoms and replacing the head gasket fixed the problem. I also agree with the other posters that a small head gasket leak won't result in a catastrophic failure. As long as you don't have overheating or oil/coolant mixing you should be able to take your time diagnosing it and fix it at your leisure. If you do replace the head gasket, it is a good time to consider other maintenance/upgrades like timing belt change, water pump, head work, head studs, etc.

I bought the head bolts but when I asked about the head studs they said that they didn't have a listing for the head studs. Is there somewhere that I can purchase them?

crazy didn't know that. why did your friend drive like that for 1. and how did they know it was bad for a year? and I am not wrong for the situation I provided.
