I'm sure you'll have to take the seat cover off, I'm not sure exactly how to do it, but you'll probably need some hook rings and a pair of pliers to reattach the cover to the frame.

Ya I got it now LOL I figured id try it for myself anyways. I removed the passenger seat and got the covers off. Im going to wash the covers and my carpet tomorrow then ###### dye them monday. But i forgot until i got the cover off about the vinyl or whatever on the back of the seat:ohdamn: You still think that it would dye?!

You have to get a plier and find those dang hook rings. The cover pulls off the seat easy but those hook rings hold it tight in the middle, you just have to be easy with the foam it holds the rings in. its pretty easy though i pulled my carpet, passenger seat and got the cover off in about 2 hours.

Just be careful when using the dye, it's really easy to use too much and make the fabric hard as a rock. You're also going to want to look into a set of hog ring pliers and new hog rings to put the covers back on so you can get the covers snug again.

Way to steer the guy in the wrong direction. You do NOT have to take the cover off.
They are also hog rings not hook rings. And you use hog ring pliers not standard pliers.

Clean your seats.
You can use an adhesive promoter if you choose. That may be more for dashs, not 100% sure on cloth. I just did my dash.
Then you spray it doing LIGHT coats. Do 1 light coat and yes the old color will show, wait awhile and do another LIGHT coat. Don't worry how it looks, it will get darker and the stock color will fade away as it dries.

Wait for it to dry and done. I did my stock leather seats, my leather dash on my starion and other plastic panels. My friend also did his oem evo8 seats. 7 years later they still look perfect.

spray painting fabric just sounds like a bad idea. till the passenger starts sweating or something and the paint rubs into their clothes. i'd say fabric dye, take the covers off and do it right. people see the interior when they get, dont half ass it.

Yet, you went into painting when the OP clearly is talking about dying.

dying seats

I no you can dye your carpet with rit dye. But can you do it with your cloth seats?!

I've never done this because I really don't own DSMs anymore but I was going to pull my seat covers and dump them in a big batch of RIT dye with hot water for a while. Theres some good info on other forums if you google it.

+1 on that. It can be hard enough to reupholster with the right tools. As far as the dye goes I'd say find a scrap yard an see about a seat that is garbage and use the seat cover to test it out first. Might cost a little more but how but would two new covers cost if it fails? Also the dye won't do the same thing to fabric as it will to vinyl. I'm sure it will stain it but not sure it will be consistent. Also might want to keep track of time in the die, a few minutes could mean a few shades difference.

Well we call them hook rings here, and I've found that standard pliers work better so thats what I said. Also, wouldn't it make more sense to take the cover off rather than trying to dye it while its still attached?
