Ok so I have been runnin through old threads and searching, gathering info on the oh so common idle surge, FIAV and IPS issues. Yeah my Talon does have the surge while warming up but it never really bothered me at all. Well the other day I was doing some scheduled maintenece and noticed the connector to the IPS was fraying... Well I was letting the car warm up, surging proceeded, I removed the connector and surging stops, car does a normal fast idle, and goes back down to 800ish RPM at operating temp. Now from all I have read I thought removing this connection was supposed to cause issues?? Not create normalcy? Yes i plan on doing a proper repair to it and having the IPS hooked up correctly. So my next step, make sure I have the TB ground strap on right? Do the proper testing procedures for the IPS? I apologize in advance for yet another question like this, but my searching did not yeild everything I wanted to find out. Mainly im just curious about this and trying to fill in some blanks. Honestly my idle surge does not bother me at all. Thanks for your time and im hoping i did not miss an old thread on this that has my anwers:D

Maybe you have a bad idle position switch. But honestly I would block off the lower portion of your throttle body if you want to avoid other issues.

Again I apologize for the redundant idle question. I took a good look through that link. My issue is not like that, just when warming the car up. Never bothersome but I am thinking the IPS may be bad or I need to adjust it per one of the many threads I searched about this haha. Thanks for the replies guys. And ya... I have read the thread about blocking my FIAV...

It actually sounds like your idle switch is working perfectly. When you disconnect it you are no longer telling the ecu that the car is at idle. This means is will no longer try to keep rpms at the programmed idle rpm which means it will no longer cut fuel when the rpms are abnormally high (which causes the idle surge that you have).

The only thing I can think of that this will affect is engine braking. During coast down, the ecu will no longer cut fuel which reduces your ability to engine brake.

Thats what I came up with after searching through all those threads. Im either thinking I need to test the ISC or my FIAV is going out... Other then surging while warming up it acts completely normal. Again I thank you all for the additional input. I know its age old question gone over many times but I just could not find anything specific to warming up idle surges haha.
