Hey guys i got a felpro headset from oreilly and it looks pretty good. Now i have read many people say the felpro composite is junk and you cant run more than 15psi of boost. Then some say that they are great. I am using arp 207-4203 head studs on my build and i am looking for 20psi. Should i toss the felpro composite in the trash and just run the mitsu composite. Has anyone run a felpro composite with any sucess? Any info appreciated i am trying to have my engine back in next weekend and i need to know which way to go. Thanks

Thanks again i agree with you guys. I just had the head resurfaced so im not going to spray it with anything. Its not sprayed from the factory. So composite felpro here we go.:thumb:

Ive used a few on my dsms, never a issue with the felpro, i used only one oem gasket in the years i owned these things, held up fine, for a street car and track car.

< ebay gasket kit, (supposed to be fel pro idk) and its holding fine at 15psi. No copper spray, I did have the head surfaced properly. OEM Headbolts as well, correctly torqued.

I wouldnt use fel-pro unless its there new one. I had one of the rings turn into a football shape. I heard good things about them but I cheaped out and got felpro and paid the price. Mitsu all the way.

what is there new one? I have the felpro composite and it says permatorque. Ya its like 35- from oreilly. How long ago did you get your felpro

There is no "new one". The Felpro composite gasket has been the same since day one. And it's virtually identical to the Mitsu OE gasket, so it's impossible for one to be leaps and bounds better than the other.

i have run 26psi on my evo316g on the felpro all day with arp head studs...

thanks again guys these are the things i needed to hear. Just for the peace of mind because this whole build process has got me stressed!:) arp and felpro here we go

Obviously the composite since that's what this thread is pertaining to.

Don't be a douche, I was asking for clarity because, lord knows people don't pay attention to the OP when replying to a thread. I've seen someone ask about a felpro before and everyone immediately assumes they're referring to the MLS.

Thanks for replying, regardless

I used the Fel-pro composite on w/ ARP's (yes, I did re-torque them)

It lasted about 12 months on 18 psi of boost on the 14b (with BIG FMIC).

It ended up blowing inbetween cyl 2-3. Blasted out the composite material and all that was left was the fire rings. No coolant into the cylinders but it would push boost/compression into the cooling system, dumping out coolant from the overflow tank.

The head was flat after I took it off (.001-.002) (checked with machinest strait edge)

I replaced it with a Mitsu gasket after that and no problems. The Felpro seemed to be a bit more flimsey then the genu mitsu gasket.

BUT on my next talon/build I ended up using a Beck Arnley gasket. I have to say these are MUCH better quality then the Fel-pro composite gasket and look a lot more like the OEM gasket. It has also held up to more then 18psi of boost for around 18 months now of Daily driving. Plus I think it was even cheaper then the Felpro Gasket (i paid around $25-30) for the Beck Arnley.

I would recommend the Mitsu or Beck Arnley HG for a composite.

as long as you get those headstuds torqued correctly youre golden. fel pro's are legit.

Fel-Pro. thats all i've used. Mitsu-MLS will hold up better in car with wrong A/F mix but the point is tune it right without knock. I ran 20-25 PSI on stock head bolts on both 6-bolt and 7-bolt. i never had a failure in any of the 5 or 6 DSM's i've owned.

On my build im running L19 and mitsu Comp hg. I will be running 25psi -29psi.
