Hey guys i got a felpro headset from oreilly and it looks pretty good. Now i have read many people say the felpro composite is junk and you cant run more than 15psi of boost. Then some say that they are great. I am using arp 207-4203 head studs on my build and i am looking for 20psi. Should i toss the felpro composite in the trash and just run the mitsu composite. Has anyone run a felpro composite with any sucess? Any info appreciated i am trying to have my engine back in next weekend and i need to know which way to go. Thanks

Just stick with the Fel-Pro composite if you already have it. I haven't had any issues with mine. I did a comparison on the two on one of the head gasket threads and they are practically identical.

All Fel-Pros are from what I've seen, 'perma-torq', it's just a coating that's put on the gasket. If you do choose to run the MLS gasket, you need to have the proper RA surface on both the head and block.

30+ is easily done on the composite with the proper head studs. With an o-ringed block (or head) you can run much more on the composite. I believe Paul Volk is running 40+ on his setup using a composite gasket and IIRC it's a Fel-Pro

I'm stuck in the same dilemma. But I think i've decided to go with the Mitsu OEM Composite gasket just because I know I can trust OEM parts. I think that if I went with a Fel-Pro, I would always worry about it when I crank up the boost and run C16 at the track.

thanks for all the answers guys. Thats why i like this site. I trust OEM, Im just worried about the felpro but with all your replies im going to give it a shot. Ill let u know if it works good or if my motor blows.

OH I wanted to ask about that. Should i spray it with copper coat or just run the gasket alone? Im going with the felpro composite since i already have it.

A lot of people spray them with a light coat of copper spray on both sides as a security. I did on mine as well.

You will most likly get mixed answers on this, though.:thumb:

Does anyone have this part number for the composite head gasket, not the MLS head gasket. I cannot find this composite head gasket anywhere....and I've searched and called around.

I have never once sprayed a composite gasket with copper spray. The gasket is coated with a material to fill in the imperfections. I don't like the idea of having something taking up space between the head and block other than the gasket.

For the oem gasket or the felpro? Are you wanting a gasket for the 420a in car in your profile, or are you looking for a 4g63 gasket? The 420a comes from the factory with a mls, so you will unlikely find too many composite gaskets for it. The 4g63 came from the factory with a composite so they are made by everyone.

Thank you so much!! Don't mean to high jack the thread, but I ordered the Felpro HS9922PT (MLS) gasket kit from Rock Auto. I only have 85,000 miles on my car and the car hasn't been overheated or anything. Would I be safe to install the MLS and have no leaks or should I just get the Felpro 9627PT Composite Gasket? Who has installed the MLS gasket with no decking of the head/block and been okay?

Also, I have the 420a Engine. Is this still the right part numbers??

No, the 420a uses a completely different gasket than the 4g63. This thread doesn't really pertain to anything 420a being that they use a mls from the factory. Use the mls, it will work fine. Just make sure that you don't scar up the surface of the head when you have if off. Also why are you replacing the head gasket if it isn't leaking or overheating?

It is leaking at the drivers side near cylinder #4. Losing a good amount, about a quart every 400+ miles. Should have stated that haha, my bad. But thank you for this info. I've done research and questioning, and I was told there was a composite gasket for the 420a and I was puzzled when I couldn't find it anywhere...

There are some cheap off brand companies that make them, but i wouldn't use one.

Before you waste time with a headgasket change, take the bolt out in the rear driver side corner. Grind about 1/8 of an inch off the bottom of the bolt. Just be sure to make it smooth again so that it doesn't damage the thread. Torque it back in. It's a common problem for these motors. On mine I didn't even need to grind down the bolt, but mine was just barely leaking.

As for OP- Felpro composite is my recommendation.
