There isn't a part like that in these engines, someone must of dropped that in there or something.

hahah thats what I'm f**ing saying i got the car from a 60 year old lady with 20k on it and it was always serviced at the dealership until i owned it and I've only done cams bc 272 drop ins

But, keep in mind those aren't connected there in single pieces

And i don't think anything fell down when i swapped the cams, because i did it all in one night and i have no idea what that part is so it wasn't near the car.

Maybe during one of the services a mechanic used the valve cover as a tray and knocked the misc. part down? That or the 60yr old lady used the oil pan to hide her "precious" in. There's more than one reason why everyone says old people are crazy. Makes me want to drop my pan and see what treasures await me.

haha yes, too funny though.

Is it magnetic?
:/

Only thing i've ever known to be placed in there is a magnet for catch metal shavings. But it certainly doesn't look like a magnet.
that's crazy though, Glad the motors all good.

I've found treasures in my 4G63 ;) 12mm socket in the the no 4 cylinder intake, wire cutters in the power steering cross member, $$$ under the spare tire.
I like tearing my car apart because I never know what I'm going to find next! (Or discover what is missing...)

On my old 92 GS (n/t) i had a rattle in my stock exhaust. I traced it to the cat so i tore the cat off and shook it around, sure enough the same exact piece as your first picture fell out(except it was only half and badly damaged)

Edit: there were no holes in it like your picture

What size is your oil drain line? They may have made their way down being in those little pieces kind of difficult to judge the size but the paper gives a decent reference.

Edit: I got beat by a minute on that response.
