I love my s&w xd9. Holds 16 rounds which is nice and feels a lot better than most other compact guns in my hand. ( I have big hands). Shoots great too!

I just bought a Sig P250 and it is the best shooting pistol that I've ever fired. I absolutely love that pistol
You sir must like revolvers....its a fine arm but damn that long trigger pull

There are much better choices than the Beretta 92 series (M9). They are very heavy for a 9mm pistol.
True but the 92fs is such a great and classic gun. The weight helps with accuracy

The S&W L frame 686 .38 special / .357 magnum is more then enough. And what is the light hammer??
I actually prefer the gp100 over the s&w IMO

....also, i see no point in a dedicated 38 revolver when you can get one that fires 38 and 357mag for around the same price.
100% agree, I mostly shoot the 38 when the option arrises

Glocks feel like crappy plastic toys. their sights are huge so its nearly impossible to even see a relativly small target anywhere outside 20 ft. also they are again plastic big framed guns that i wouldnt take for free.
+1 million glocks are a dime a dozen and just feel like complete garbage to me. Just a cookie cutter gun

I am very fond of the xdm line as well as having a cz75b

How about here, Glock 22 40S&W 3rd Gen pistol w/ night sights, very good condition. $379 used Glock 22. The 40 S&W round packs the punch of the 45 with the accuracy of the 9mm.

The Sig 40 S&W is a fine gun but taking it apart is like taking apart a Swiss watch compared to the simplicity of the Glock. Just my opinion.

BK85

Thanks for this site I will browse a bit on here.

I know a lot of people are talking about how the Glock is platic, but most, if not all, the guns I am looking at are polymer frames,, thats what you get for around 400$ LOL

I am a very good shot and I am very very strong that is why I can handle the power of a 50 caliber pistol but reality is unless your an iraqi officer or israelian or a god dam terrorist with money you really dont want to use that gun. impressive power and the strongest semi auto pistol but weighs to god dam much for the average guy. Great sidearm when bear hunting or maybe if your up against stage 2 medium body armor. LOL

The rugger GP 100 is a good gun but if you planning on modding your rugger how many gunsmith out there knows how to do it.

How far of a distance are we talking about??? and how small is the grouping

OP, I'd suggest going to your local shops and talking to people there.

There is simply too much bullshit in this thread.

Yeah noticed that to , but the local shop is knowm to be overpriced and I have to buy outside city with because of a city ordinance

And I feel a shop will try to " sell" me a gun instead.of informing me

Well, outside of a few people that I know to be knowledgeable on here about the subject, I'd be wary of of everyone else's advice.

They WILL try to sell you something and if they pressure you down to one choice (which is above your budget) I would not trust them and take my business somewhere else. If they are reputable they will work with you to find the best firearm for YOU within your price range.

I'm lucky to have a good shop in my area that knows what I do (within reason) and what I'll need to get it done. They take very good care of me and in return I give them quite a bit of business.

The last people to take firearm advice from is people who've never been in a situation where they've had to use it. I'll leave it at that.

Best of luck to you, bud.

Thanks. I looked into that used gun website, they do have good deals on glocks. I know this got way out of hand talking about glock 18's and .50 cal DE's. The Bass pro shop by me has a DE with 3 mags and all the barral conversions (.357, .44 mag, and .50AE) for 2,000 but that is way over my range LOL. But Yea it is comming close to my 21'st bday so I need to find out soon

I have a sig p229 and LOVE IT. Glocks are good guns but i just dont like the way the feel in the hand. Not taking anything away from them, my next gun is gonna be a Glock 19. But i would go with the Sig personally. The craftsmanship and reliability is WAY better then a glock. I would go shoot both before you make your decision. You can have the best, most expensive gun in the world, but if your not comfortable shooting it then its nothing more then a paper weight. Either way your going to get a quality firearm. Just get what your more comfortable with.

Glocks and Sigs are very close in regards to craftsmanship. Glocks are one of the most reliable firearms out there. They are also extremely low maintenance, easy to clean, and easy to maintain. They are also very durable. Sigs are hit or miss depending on what model you go with. In my opinion though, sigs are a bit over priced. Glocks are reasonably priced and you will be happy with it. Some people complain about their grips, and ergonomics. That is all a matter of opinion really. If anyone tells you their glock jammed or had a misfeed they are either using extremely subpar ammunition or shitty magazines. I have never had a jam or a misfeed with my glock 17 or my glock 19.

If you want to get good honest to god opinionsand there is a Cabelas near you go there. Alot of the guys who work there are knowledgeable and know their shit. They wont try to sell you on anything you dont want. They dont make commission. (i know i worked at a cabelas gun counter)

I can second that Glocks are quite reliable.

However, as stated above, the grip angle feels odd to me. But if you like it you won't regret buying one.

I was looking into that rugar and bass pro shop. It cost less than 400$ and it has good reviews

+1 for the XDM. I have a XDM .45 and to me it felt the best. I shot a Sig, Glock, and the Springfield and out of those the XDM felt the best. Like everyone has already stated though, its all about personal feel.

Since alot of you guys seem very knowledgable about many different things, I would like some opinions on wether or not I should be purchasing a handgun for home defense.

I have a family, I dont have any firearms for my own personal use, which would be home defense; outside of the Army. I do not know which would be safer to have; a shotgun, or a handgun. I'm not looking for something so powerful or glamourious to show all my friends, just something where an intruder comes in, they either dont walk out, or dont walk out without F**Ked up, or in handcuffs by police. I havent had any formal handgun training, and there is a civilian firearms course I can take to be legal. I have 7 years of military firearms experiance, with US and forgein weapons. None outside the military.

well your on an island. Which means probably no animals to hunt. I can see that. A shotgun will be safer do to a longer muzzle, not to mention you would have to pump it if it was a pump action(most commmon). As for which gun would be easier to access in a case of an intruder a pistol.

Thanks man that gave me some real insight at least to the options of safety and access for emergency, I didnt think of that yet :)

FYI Wild Bore are one of many common animals on the islands of hawaii that are hunted year round. Deer and other game animals on the other islands are also commonly hunted :) I think I'll be going to shop for a shotgun, considering my local laws I read over twice and the ease it is of obtaining one here. A pistol will be next after I attend a concealed carry class.

There are few things scarier than hearing a shotgun being "racked" behind you back, LOL. (Not that I would know first hand).

Love my xd.45 with carbon fiber paddle holster and lower laser sight! I fell off a boat with it and it shot perfect after being soaked. Have dropped it from about 10ft onto concrete and still fires grate.

On the roof of my house ( out in the country) my friend was shooting at a target and he dropped it and it slid down the roof and fell on the driveway. I was super surprised there was only one little scratch.
