What are the pros and cons to each of these? Debating what I want to run on mine

Oh, com'on! Do we really need to go over this again? Nutshell: don't dump unless you have a blow-thru or are using SD.

This isn't a BOV thread LOL.

It's just preference, if you like loud hot exhaust dumped into your engine bay, get a dumped o2. I wouldn't use one with a small turbo.

Thank you for the input!

I vaguely recall reading somewhere that one of the two is more prone to boost creep. Is this true?

I think he is talking about wastegates and not blow off valves.

PRO's of o2 dump: exhaust gases escape faster better boost controll so no spiking unless u want it to spike for power | Little kids run in fear from your loud car as you zip by in the neighborhood.

Cons of o2 dump: Loud, noisy, stinky, and cops hate it.Also if you have emmissions it's not going to help.

Recirulated o2 pros: Quite and will be no different feeling in any loss of a o2 dump on a small turbo.

Cons: No kids running scared from the loud screaming of the o2 dump.

Personally don't get it but if don't mind a screaming wastegate and if cops are not dicks where you live and emmissions isnt coming after you for modified exhaust or also if you don't mind a headache from fumes or loud noises then get it.

Thank you. This was very helpful. I was leaning towards rec. no emissions where I live. But I am on a first name basis with the cops there from my cummins haha

You are 1g right so just upgrading to the 2g exhaust manifold and 2g o2 housing if your still on the 1g ones will be a huge upgrade enough, even can get the evo 3 exhaust manifold is good but I would stay away from the evo 3 o2 housing as the angle is off to most exhaust setups. You will be suprised how well the stock setup can handle if maintained.Recirc is the way to go trust me on that.:thumb:

This is actually going to be for my 2g autocross build

Do you have a power goal for your autocross 2g?Really should be fine with the stock stuff if staying in the 16g range for spool and decent power for autocross.

Yes power goal is 300-400 whp. Would be nice to see more tq then hp

The 1g and 2g o2 housing castings are nearly identical besides the o2 sensor placement so unless there are fitment issues, don't bother swapping.

Non-recirc on an internally wastegated stockish frame turbo just seems like you're looking for attention IMO. Low boost(wastegate opening sooner) and/or part throttle tend to sound like a bad exhaust leak.

I have an o2 dump. Sometimes I wish I didn't go that way because all you see behind me is a cloud of black smoke from rich exhaust leaving so early in the system, and sometimes the noise gets annoying. But its funny seeing people's reactions and it does allow for better boost control.

Apologies for misreading your use of "dumped o2" (which I read as "dumped to o2" or "dumped to atmosphere"), but I can now save you a bunch of time wasted thinking about this.

Autocrossing with the SCCA (and several other clubs I know of) requires that all exhaust gases exit to the side or rear of the car, behind the driver. In other words, directly dumping from the wastegate in the engine bay is against the rules.

/thread, take 2 :)

This is good to know thank you. So I'll just freshen up my stock o2 housing an should be good?

Ya I imagine the reactions are pretty priceless LOL

Can always port the o2 help with spool.:thumb:

Recirculate it. I just finished my build a couple weeks ago, and thats my biggest regret/thing I want to change. I forgot how obnoxious it was on my old turbo Honda, so I decided dump to atmosphere on my Talon. I also figured I was going to be pushing my 2.5" exhaust to it's limits.
