Just looking for opinions I am taking a course that requires handgun training and I came down to two different guns I may want. The first is Sp2022, which would be 450$ brand new, and my second choice was a Glock 17 used for 400$. Sig Sauer and Glock are both some of the top HG producers in the world, and I can’t decide on which one to get. I was leaning to the Glock because it has a higher mag cap, lighter, and parts/mags are cheaper, But the Sig is brand new. I plan on fallowing a career in Law Enforcement when I leave college. Any opinions?

I'd take the Sig over the Glock. That's just my opinion though. The weight doesn't bother me and the grip angle feels better to me than the Glock's. When it comes down to it though, it's whatever feels better for YOU. You're the one who is going to be using it.

I'm very happy with my XD .45. I've thrown it in mud, sand and water and it fires no problem. Absolutely zero failues of any kind after 6000+ rounds.

$400 for a used full size glock is $25-50 to steep.

glock:
mags plentiful and cheap
no BS safetys which anyone with common knowledge doesn't need
possibly more reliable
sig:
sigs in general are worth more, usually sell for more then MSRP, unlike glocks who hold their value at ~$100-200 under MSRP
better trigger pull
it's a sig, huge cult following, most diehard sig guys are like 1911s "i have this pistol every other pistols worse"

i personally have never fired a sig but from handling them they seem right on par with glock quality wise

you should see what the department you want to join is issued and get the same brand and size(not scenically the same caliber just the same basic gun), familiarity is key to accuracy

EDIT: on a side note i prefer the glocks trigger pull over that of a single action

I LOVE my Sigs. I have 2 SP2022's with the interchangable grips.

The 9x18 makarovs are very nice, reliable, concealable weapons. And they are cheap, I have 4, including an east german police issue.

Also, the Walther PPKs Is a wonderful weapon for consealment and reliability. Only downsides are A: they are a bit pricey, and B: they are a pain in the ass to field strip. I cant tell you how many times I have accidently sent my slide flying across the living room...........

I don't like Glocks for 2 reasons. First is to me they are ass ugly. Secondly I feel like I'm holding a piece of tupperware when I am holding one. Just not my style.

OH! I also have 2 Desert Eagles in 9mm compact form. Or "Baby Eagles". They are heavy, strong and reliable. Beautiful weapons. Mine are older, I think they are calling the new ones "Jericho" now.

Don't not buy a pistol because of the safety. If you get an instructor that knows what he's talking about he will prob teach you to leave the safety off, the hammer back and the chamber empty.. That way no matter what your carrying one quick pull and you're ready

Youv'e really got to hold both and shoot both.
Sigs are hammer guns and Glocks are striker fired. The triggers will feel very different. Also, the biggest difffernce between Sig and Glock will be hight of bore over the web of your hand. The sig has alot more hieght over your hand which will feel much different in recoil than the Glock which sits very low in one's hand. IMO, glocks are more of a straight back recoil (push) and Sigs cause more roll (muzzle flip).

I'm not a big fan of Sigs, but I'll admit they are fine firearms - reliable and high quality. Personally, I'm a huge Glock fan. I carry one nearly everyday and shoot competition with one too. Either would make a fine pistol.

Also, I would like to suggest the Glock 19 over the Glock 17. The G19 (or G23, depending on your caliber of choice) is, in my and many other's opinions, the ideal Glock. It's not as big or bulky as the G17 but still big enough to get full grip and big enough to shoot very comfotably. It's much easier to carry and conceal if you want as well. If you want more ammo you can always insert the larger Glock 17 or 18 magazines.

Also, don't let the lack of a manual safety deter you from glock.
No safety can protect users from poor firearm safety... they only delay inevitable accidents.
There is no substitutes for the safety that sits between your ears.

Another cool thing about the glocks I just thought about is that yu can switch calibers and sizes very easily without having to "relearn" a firearm. All the glocks are pretty much identical in feel and handling - switching from a Glock 17 to 19 or 23 or 29 is as easy as getting the new glock... no surprises or learning curve.

In fact, several glocks can be multicaliber guns with the addition of a conversion barrel and magazines.
You could buy a Glock 22 or 23 (.40s&w) and drop a .40-9mm conversion barrel in them to shoot 9mm too!

^ and the smaller glock you get the more universal it is, if you got a 26/27/33 you could have any barrel from 3.5" to 5.25" and any mag and grip size from subcompact to full size up to 31-33rd mags.
357sig and .40 glocks you can swap to 22lr, 9mm, .40 and 357sig, i think there is a few wildcat conversions too... note 9mm glocks are limited to 9 or 22lr.
i am unsure of sig caliber conversions capability other then 40-357sig

19's are great glocks but are hard to come by nowadays, usually you can pick up 40sw chambered variant(in this case 23) for cheaper
glocks are legos for adults

you need to see what the department carrys so you can get more training with that general firearm.

I love my SIG. My XD was a really great choice. Right now im in love with my M&P for carrying.

you can go worse then a hi-point.... jennings/jiminez ja-9 is one horrible gun, take a reliable raven 25 design, use poor quality metals and scale it up and you have a POS

also if the glock is a gen 4 i would just avoid it, they have/had some reliability problems

i just picked up an XD .40 subcompact for 370 shipped brand new and i like it alot. they also had the .40 service and 9mm service for 370. keep an eye on slickguns.com for good deals

Yea the glock was a 3g. I am using it for a class first which requires any standard issue round, so .38, 9mm, .40 and .45 is what I was told. I dont know if the russinan 9mmx18 would count LOL. I always get mixed felling from people. The only HG I shot was a m9 berretta, and I can say I rather enjoyed that. It was heavier then both the sig and glock, but I know M9 are good guns. I want to work my local department, and they ussually carry glock or m9's, but again I was told by some local cops that your arm is your choise as long as it is the above calibers.

I prefer glock personally. Whatever you do,
DO NOT BUY A HIGHPOINT.

Isn't that the f**king truth!!! You would be better off throwing it.

I agree your safety is in your head with common sense. Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until your ready to drop your target. For a .45 im a huge fan of the traditional 1911. Its a little heavy and bulky but imo feels like nothing else. Can't go wrong with a SIG, XD, or M&P. Personally not a fan of Glock but they have proven themselves.

If this is for law enforcement, get what is standard issue, that's my reasoning for getting a Glock 22.

Overall, you need to essential test drive the firearms you are considering. They feel and fire differently and only you can make a choice on what you personally prefer.

Remember dry firing and range practice makes the shooter, not the gun.

Like I said I only have about a 400$ range LOL, and I need to save up all month for that. I would love a 1911, but they are costly, and would love a M9 because that is what I shot before. I also have a nice feel for the Walther P99, because I have a airsoft version I use regularly, and when I held a real one it felt right at home in my hand, but I cant afford it.

I just bought a Sig P250 and it is the best shooting pistol that I've ever fired. I absolutely love that pistol

There are much better choices than the Beretta 92 series (M9). They are very heavy for a 9mm pistol.

However, if that is what you are comfortable and shoot well with, it's your money, buy what works for you!

I know it was the heaviest of all the HG I held that day

I need something accurate up to 45ft grouping, that is the maz distance we will be shooting

both the glock and sig will outshout most other guns in the sub $1000 range... the few that might be as good or better would be:
hi power
M&P
XD
etc
i am sure the hi power is way more accurate then a standard glock or sig but they are in the high $800s...
XD and M&P... i hate the way they feel so have never shot or done research on them. but have heard good things

my point you can't go wrong either way.... it's more of a hammer fire vs striker fire and thin(er) grip vs thick(er) glock grip

You can pick up Hk USPs and USPC around here for around 500. I'd look into those too. I love my .40S&W USPC. I much prefer them over the feel of the Sig or the Glock. The FN FNP was more comfortable in my hand but not as ergonomic as the USPC. Theyre about the same price as the HK too.

^ i hate you so much right now, here i have yet to see any USP for under $900.... he is a lot closer to you so hanes are he mat be ale to find one that cheap...
USP's are great guns if they were at glock like prices here i would have one... or a few

I would definitely chose the Sig Sauer over the glock 17. Your glock 17 is lighter but your Sig Sauer is more durable, has more range and acuracy and can be chambered for the .357 sig which is a little more powerful than your 9 by 19 p. On top of that Sig sauer pistols like the p226 and the p228 have been used by the United States Navy Seals as an option for the secondary on top of that the British SAS use the M11 which is a version of the P228 pistol. GLocks are for thugs a Sig is for a Seal. If the guys who took out Osama(the biggest threat to the u.s in history) use it. I would thats for dam sure.

Actually I would use the MK. 23 which is even a better 45 acp handgun. For the OP a 45 acp pistol is going to weigh more than the sig and the glock so put that in mind before thinking of power.

High points are the most uncomfortable 45 acp handguns. I used to have when and the god dam slide would hit my hand and always leave scratches not to mention they were really shaped folked up

Spend time with both weapons. Fire both and see which you like better. You have to be comfortable with it, not anyone else.
Good luck to you brother.

If you are in the market for a gun, might as well go to your local shooting range and try a couple of guns and see which one you like, also get the feel of it.

I need something accurate up to 45ft grouping, that is the maz distance we will be shooting

Most guns are pretty accurate out to 15 yards but you have to do your part. If you want to be dead on accurate get a revolver. 4 to 6 inch barrel should be more then enough.

If your price range is in the 400 bucks or so, why try looking in to Consignment (or used guns). Over most used guns are in pretty good conditions and sometimes not. So you really know what you are looking for in its wear and tear.

And if you really want a 1911 look in to Rock Island. They are the cheapest price range of all 1911's gun maker out there.
