Ok, i' ve been seaching around for some pics of anyone with 17x8 wheels with a 245/40 tire. I'm looking at getting some wheels with a 38mm offset and am wondering if i can tuck the 245 on my 2g. I can not stand for the wheels to stick out past the fenders, i don't mind rolling and doing some modifications. I've searched and read posts where people said yes it will work and also seen no it will not. So please chime in experienced users with this wheel/tire size.

Had exactly that. Tucks inside a rolled rear lip, even after rear camber reduction. Doesn't stick out.

i run 17x8+30 with a 245/40 and i rolled front and rear so they wouldn't rub and camber is F 1.5* R 2.5*

your wheels would be approx 15mm more towards the car then my wheels i think, maybe someone else can confirm

Evo wheels are 17x8 +38 and people are running those on both 1g's and 2g's, so I don't see why you would have a problem. I'm looking into some XXR 527's that are 17x8.25 +35 so I'm in the same ball park as you are. Just trying to decide on tire size. Since I have a 1g I think I have a little less clearance so I'm thinking about going with 235/45

I'm not sure of the specs on the wheels but I ran tsw vx1's on my other gst with 235\45s on them and never scrubbed a bit. they were 17x8 but not sure of offset

Had 245's on my Evo wheels that my buddy now runs on his 2g dropped on Tein Super streets. You'll need to roll the rears.

i have recently gotten a 1995 eclipse gs and i would like to know what size tires do you guys think would fit best on a 16x7 rim. the car is going to be my daily driver but also my toy. so its not going to be abused alot.

I don't know of any 245/40/17 tires that don't work on a +38 17x8. But I'd want to know specifics before saying that 245/45/17 will work on that same wheel, as the extra height will bring the shoulder of the rear tire closer to the knuckle. Most will probably still work, but there might be a wide-at-shoulder 245/45/17 that will rub.

As to the attempted thread-jack to what to put on 16x7s ... I'd probably get 205-225 snows and get wider wheels for the summer.

These are MB 17x8.5 +20.
245/45/17

I have not rolled my fenders which is why it's still monster trucking also; please excuse my car it is dirty... I know this isn't your ideal look but it'll give you an idea.

In all honesty, you can just about get anything to fit with the right amount of time and patience; under realistic circumstances.
I run xxr 527 18x9.75 +22 on my evo and that wasn't too bad to get to fit.

good luck

I got 255's to fit but i couldn't lower it very much without running into spindle. It sits like a monster truck for sure but i'll have much better traction now. I got to lower the car almost 1.25" from stock and everything clear.
